£100 M&S vouchers received for upgrading to SkyHD. Can't afford to ovepay these immediately so will overpay them as and when I use them.

Also got £12.50 cashback & first 3 months free for upgrading so basically Sky are paying me for the first year. Will then decide wether to keep the HD or cancel it. DH likes it for the F1 coverage. Wonder if we can just subscribe for 6 months a year?

Todays shopping came in at £83, £7 under budget, although spent £20 on mcds last night for DDs & 2 friends.

Spent 2 hours watching DD2 at gymnastics this morning, DD1 is now away for a dance rehearsal for 2 hours, back for 1 hour then she's performing tonight. I've also volunteered to help back stage. DH, MIL & DD2 watching tonight. I'll watch tomorrow with my mum.

DH needs to fix floorboards in DD2 bedroom, but they are so thick he is having problems getting them. Luckily he has said he will fix them temporarily so plasterers can still come Monday.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

DH decided to take out the old windowsill in DD2s bedrooms and took all the plaster off the wall underneath as well!!! Aarggh - it's getting worse before it gets better.

Plasterer here at the mo, couldn't wait for insurance to sort themselves out I need to get DD2 back in her room. Hopefully they will pay out and I'll be re-imbursed.

Paying the plasterer for now though will have to come out of £300 earmarked at end of month for mortgage OP. I usually save up for home improvements. At least I can take it from there, I'd rather not touch savings as once i've put money in a 'virtual pot' for something specific I don't like to take it out!!

Having a real problem finding a feature wall wallpaper that we both like though. She's 9 so it needs to last her until she's mid-teens, but everything is too grown-up for now or too babyish for later. We really can't settle on a suitable one.

Just OPd £29 from overtime worked last week, & £5.50 from lottery winnings from works syndicate.

Plasterer cost me £160, and DH produced cash for that so it didn't come out of any savings or OPs. Hopefully the insurance will cover it.

Given up with the wallpaper and probably going with wall stickers that can be more easily replaced in a couple of years when she gets grows up a bit. We also found we can get her name done so she's over the moon. with that.

DH hoping to get ceiling painted over the weekend so DD2 and I can start on the walls on Monday.

Making a copy of my signature so I can keep track of my progress. It's now 3 months since the start of this diary and our re-mortgage. Where does time go??

Another small OP - £10 redeemed in *mazon vouchers from 1PSOS.

BUT (and it's a big but!!!) we've now paid out £26500 for the deposit for the new building for DHs business. We increased mortgage by £24k, but also had to put in £2500 from savings for fees etc. So the offset is now looking a little slimmer!!!

Hoping to complete by next friday so the hard work will begin to get it ready for moving in.

VERY cheap weekend - and it needed to be!!!

Yesterday didn't feel up to doing main food shop so only spent £26 on a few bits. Will need to go back tomorrow though.

Weather lovely so took children to local country park after dinner yesterday - freeeeeee!!!

To friends for dinner and walk round local park today - freeeeeee!!!

Did spend £27 in L Ashley on sale fabric to make roman blind for DD2 bedroom. Was £30 p/metre before sale got it for £13.50 p/m. Checked out price for made to measure blind - £290 - and that's a sale price!! Not a hard decision to make it myself! Have an old blackout lining I can use, so shouldn't cost me anymore.

Hope the weather continues for a few more days.

Another small OP this morning - £26 from our 3rd of magpie sales.

Finally left my other job last week, but have now volunteered to go back every week to do staff wages only. As this is extra money will OP this every week. Will work out at about £9!!! after tax & lottery payment.

Daren't stop paying into lottery - as soon as I do they'll win!!!

Can't wait until payday on Thursday - must stop wishing my life away!!!

Had a lovely day just DD2 and I yesterday - made cakes, painted her bedroom, cut out blind and just spent time together - simple pleasures but we both really enjoyed it.

I'm not normally very assertive, but I'm so proud of myself today.

When I went back to old work to do small job i'm staying on to do I ended up sorting out mess new person had made. I also found out they're being paid £5 an hour more than I was/am.

Asked to speak to manager and pointed out that I never mind helping out but it doesn't seem very fair that i'm being paid so much less with far greater experience - he agreed and will speak to boss for me. So now when I help out/cover holidays I should be paid far more.

I always shake like mad when I have to have these conversations, but I'm so glad I plucked up the courage to ask.

De-lurking to say well done! After all, you're only asking to be treated fairly and if you don't ask...

  • Hi Megela, huge well done for saying something. It would have festered if not and now you know you will get more money when helping out.

It's hard to stop that feeling, but I find if you look at it from an outsiders perspective, then it makes it easier to see when a conversation needs to take place - which although it doesn't stop the feelings, makes you realise you have to push on regardless.

    Best wishes Tilly

£14.60 OPd from overtime worked last week.

AND payday today so £300 OPd - this is now (hopefully) our 'standard' overpayment every month. The outcome is we have now knocked another month of the end date - now February 2032. A long way to go to hit July 2022.

Thank you for your support FortuneSmiles & Tilly. My assertiveness worked - I had a reply from old job boss and she has asked how much I would be happy to be paid for extra or covering work I do. I won't be greedy - just going to ask to be matched with the new lady. Any help I now give them will be an 'extra' and therefore an OP! :j

Got bill from plumber to move DD2s radiator - £112.00. Think will this come out of boiler savings for now. We had a quote for boiler for £3k, still need £1300 towards it.

Hopefully building purchase may go through tomorrow - so excited.
