Your insurance goes up substantially if you have claimed for personal injury as part of a car insurance claim - they see you as someone who will claim for the slightest thing if you have.
But if you get say £2k, that's going to be more than the cost of the insurance increase in the next 5 to 10 years surely?

I mean come on we're not cutting out brake lights and slamming on the brakes on the slip roads, we might genuinely have whiplash and it may affect our life quality and ability to work and earn money.

I didn't say I say I agreed with it...but I have seen people have £500/£600 added onto their insurance for persoanl injury claims having been made.

I think that is a really interesting argument though - to get the cost of increased insurance back...it would be an interesting precedent, although one which may not work - their higher the payout , the higher your new policy.

why do we suddenly need legal protection,i thought that was the point of having fully comp insurance,ie you are insured comprehensively for any claims, also check if you have legal cover on your house insurance before you pay for it again on your motor insurance.

    You dont.

However you would need to have a good understanding of case law and the ability to represent yourself in court to decide upon liability and any previous precedents.

Alternatively its probably worth the £15 annual premium (or whatever it may be in your case). It is only to allow you to more easily claim back any losses not covered under your own policy

lets sort out the crap once and for all
firstly given your vigorous defence i suspected brazilian wax had some allegance to the car insurance industry
ok, lets assume i deliberately witheld info - decieftful? -yes fraudulent? -yes , a scam? - yes - yet that is what in my experience car insurance companies have been doing consistently in the 20 years of car insurance i and friends and family have experienced (ive had to have claims settled with the intervention of my MP, others have gone on for 2-3 years - in fact they do it so blatantly every day just look in yellow pages ads "cheapest car insurance in the world ever ever guaranteed -we will beat any quote and insure 17 year old chavs in cosworths blah blah blah " - all blatant lies and deciet - i find that disgraceful
as for how could i forget the claim for !!!!!! theres loads of drivers who dont know there number plate never mind when they had a claim!
actually , paradoxiacally, im not surprised that they tried to fleece an extra £60-over the years one becomes conditioned(but irritated) to these anti consumerist conditions they impose

In that case when it comes to someone smashing into us and claiming against them, can we not also claim for future increase of insurance costs?!

You'd have to be able to claim from an ex-spouse too. I was the same person, driving the same car, but when I got divorced I had to pay an extra premium to have ex-hubby taken off my car insurance, as divorced women are percieved to be a higher risk than married women
Here I go again on my own....

I think this thread got slightly off topic and some people took the OP post to be quite different from it was meant to be. Anyway, when I was younger I had quite a few crashes, mainly because I thought I could drive fast and handle a car and couldn't! My fault! Although one of my crashes involved a man pulling out into the side of my car, his fault totally, his insurance company paid out for my written off car, end of, but when my renewal came in they wanted to take my no claims and push my insurance up about £200 (I think,it was a while ago). So I left the company, used confused.com to find a quote about half of the original renewal quote cost. (and I did disclose all my 3 crashes). Anyway OP try confused.com disclose everything (I know it werent your fault but they need to know, and I wish I could of left mine off) and you'll prob get a much better deal. Also Im pretty sure you can deny the legal thing as on confused.com it asks if you want it or not. In 3/5 years time you'll be clean again and like me can have lovely cheap car insurance!
