If Baby P and that 9 year old African girl are anything to go by, I'd say it was inaction and incompetence that gets social workers a bad name.
Hope you reported this OP.
I think the general view of posters on this thread that this should be reported, mine included.
I only replied to state a fact, and also in part to reassure people who don't know social care procedures or the law social workers work within, that if a report of a crying baby/child is made, then this baby/child will be removed and placed in care, which is the impression the post I quoted gave and simply isn't true.
I won't argue with the fact that both Victoria Climbe and Peter Connelly were let down by social care, but also, even without reading the serious case review, you will also be aware both children were known to other professionals also (not that this absolves social care's responsibility)
Social workers get a bad name in the press, but there are thousands of excellent social workers who keep families together on a daily basis and remove children from homes that are not safe for various of reasons, Its just a shame that doesn't make the headline once in a while.
I hope you do report this OP and what ever help this family need is given.0 -
I would report this also. A 2 year old shouldnt be left for 30 mins unattended and it sounds like he is some way down the fathers list of priorities. Where is the mum and do other family members visit ?
I would report it just in case. There are millions of solutions than just taking kids into care ( its quite rare for that to happen). There are other approaches and perhaps the dad just lacks experience and doenst know where to turn and would actually be pleased to receive support.0
