I believe Dell stopped sending out XP discs for a short while when SP2 first reared its head, since then they have started again sending SP2 discs out with systems.
I have not had an SP2 system yet without a disc included.
Dell always have a coa sticker on the unit somewhere.
There is also always a hidden partition on the main h/drive with the o/s on it too so if the customer gets it completely scrambled customer tech suport can talk them through booting and hitting 2 keys to complete a full reinstall of XP back to how it was when first delivered. All Dell'd upseveral times over

Certainly does - but it's one of the stickers on the machine so you can't remove it and use it on a different machine. As far as buyers should be concerned this is a full Windows XP system with the OS disk and licence. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

that doesnt make sense then, perhaps they only ship the media with base units.
we had a laptop delivered, and there were some install media supplied, but only for the apps loaded onto the machine, not the operating system itself! No Windows XP CD insight?!0 -
just had a quick look at the dell site again, and yes, there is media supplied, bizzare how when you order a laptop, it states NO MEDIA, but when you order a base unit, it says the disks are included! Learn something new every day0

My Inspiron 8600c which I ordered late last year came without any Windows restore CDs. When I contacted Dell about this they said they are no longer supplied with the notebooks and a reinstallation if needed is done by us. I was a bit peeved by this as I like to reinstall my OS fairly often for different reasons and relying on a partition on the hard drive is a bit of a lottery I felt. Since then I've backed it uk using Ghost and picked up a propper Dell restore CD on eBay for a tenner!
When you spend £1700 on a laptop, it's a bit of a nonsence having to go elsewhere for the restore CDs.0 -

Dear Customer,
Unfortunately, we have been unable to identify your order based on the information you have provided. There are a number of potential reasons why your order has not been located.'
Anyone else ?0 -
charlie12 wrote:Right, now that I know I'm getting it, I have some Q's about the Dimension 3000 series:
1) Does the 17inch TFT have a USB hub on it?
2) How many front 5 1/4" bays are there? I can see three on one picture, but two on another.
3) How many internal 3.5" bays are there
4) I know the 80GB HD is ATA/IDE, but does the motherboard have Serial ATA sockets too?

Details on Dimension 3000 (Ref. Dell's Website):

2) Two
3) One internal, one external
4) No0
