Easily offended people on MSE

That's my point Mr moderator,
I'm an opinionated guy, to the point of making sweeping generalisations sometimes, but come to discussion boards to express them, like many do, i don't make unprovoked personal attacks on people.
But i do find there's a minority of people as i said, that seem to get offended by the fact that people hold strong views, make a quick personal snipe without contributing to the thread, then off they go.0 -
Agreed
Its like 'not seeing the woods for the trees'

This is a friendly site about money saving. We wish to keep it that way. Sweeping generalisations can cause offence and we would prefer if posters would not make them.
You say you do not make unprovoked attacks on people. We would rather you did not make personal attacks on people at all. If someone offends you report it to a moderator or turn the other cheek. Replying with a retaliatory personal attack only escalates the problem.
There are plenty of other discussion type message boards if you find our rules unacceptable.0 -
There's nowt like making assumptions eh?
When i said i don't make unprovoked attacks, i wasn't inferring that i make provoked attacks..............
Also......when i meant sweeping generalisations.......
Oh i give up, i can't be bothered explaining............
Banging, brick-wall, & head come to mind.0 -

At the risk of clanging in with both size eight's, and also bearing in mind that your comments as Mod are spot on as regards the spirit of the site, I also get Nev's point.
We ALL, without exception make sweeping generalisations about people even if it is just in our minds (some people will claim they don't but I disagree) and if some of this spills out onto the forum then that's what happens.
I think the majority of users respect the rules of the site, respect other users and want this forum to remain largely as it is.
I am opinionated. No doubt about it. If I had more time to browse the site I would contribute loud and long to the discussions started here and my style and opinions may clash with others on the site. That doesn't mean I don't respect the rules of the site, because I do and it also doesn't mean my opinion is right - I've just yet to be convinced otherwise. ;D
I may also cause offence to some users, but I never, ever deliberately set out to do so, and that's the whole point.
Nev's right. There are some users here, who take extreme offence to other people's points of view without looking at the context in which the message has been written, or sometimes not getting the jist of a post because they can't hear the tone of voice. This happens more and more in everyday life these days, so I think we all need to be a little more thick skinned and give other users the benefit of the doubt.
Ok, I have stepped down, stowed my soap box neatly in the overhead locker and I'll just be going now.
Thankyou, sorry, bye, thanks, bye, thanks

What is worst of all is the semi sarcastic and condesending remarks made to 'newbies' who may not have had the time and inclination to read all previous threads.Nice to save.0
