Easily offended people on MSE

Dunno about anyone else's feelings on this.

I've been using the site for several weeks now & i've come to notice something thats beginning to get right on my tits.

We seem to have a hardcore of sanctimonious, precocious !!!!!! on this site who like nothing better than to get offended by the slightest comment.

I can imagine them sat there like coiled springs reading through threads desperately hoping to read something that can be construed as offensive to someone.... or something..... or somewhere..... giving them an excuse to react.

They then take great pleasure in jumping down your throat, accusing you of being offensive, rude etc etc etc.
More often than not then have nothing of any value to add to help fuel the discussion other than to use it as a means to attack somebody. ( Is it a self esteem problem? Are they so desperately & constantly looking for fault in others to mask their own feelings of inadequacy?)

Usually it only serves to help disrupt a glow flow in a thread. More often than not they'll deliberately mis-construe the comment to twist to their own ends.

I desperately feel sorry for anyone that has to live with these people if thats what they are like in everyday life. It must be like walking round on eggshells.

Discussion boards are there for people to express opinions. Personally i've not come across anyone on here who goes out of their way to be offensive, me included, i've found plenty of risque comments but as far as i'm concerned thats all part of the debate.

Get a life!

mmm, tis true, some people do take offence a bit easily. martins advice is aways to respect each others opinions and not be offensive. we should all remember that.

That's my point. People are not necessarily being offensive, but the sorry minority i'm referring to take pleasure in accusing others of being offensive, rude etc. Respecting other opinions, yes thats exactly what they are not doing, usually they have no opinion to give, other than to make a cheap & pathetic attack which adds nothing of value to the discussion whatsoever. They stroll into the 'Vent' board where people are venting their spleens which by its very nature is going to arouse strong opinion, then berate people for having them.

They must be a real pleasure to live/work with in real life.

yes you are right, the vent board is to vent about poor service etc, not at each other.

Glow flow! Ace term - I like that!

I'm not sure it's always deliberate. With just written words to go with, I think it's all too easy to misconstrue what people actually mean and what their intentions are (although it's often nothing engaging one's brain couldn't sort out). It's often like trying to conduct an emotional conversation by text message - it rarely works very well and people get the wrong end of the stick. You know, a simple comment like "I've just stopped off for a quickie" rapidly turns into World War III...!

I agree it would be simple courtesy to offer something constructive to a thread - rather than the 'slag and go' approach.

Similarly, I think occasionally people can be so fixed in their opinions they don't always try to see the other point of view - it would be a nicer world if we could crack that one eh?.

That should have been 'good' flow.

I really need to slow my typing down.
  • completely agree...

They are the same kind of people that get blown over in a strong wind, or quickly cower and blink when you raise your hand to itch your nose...

If you were politically correct 100% of the time you wouldn't have an opinion.

Theres lots of THEM on here, but unfortunately their threads are empty because they BORE everybody to death. .. These also do this everywhere:

    :( >:( ;D :D;):) ??? ::) ::) :P :-X :-*

Martin, take heed.... it is in the interests of your site being successful, that people remain upfront, opinionated, and un-politically correct.

Making rude personal comments about people or their views is not 'un-politically correct. It is discourteous. It was discourteous before the term political correctness was coined and it is discourteous now.

Be as up-front and opinionated (no racism, illegality or anything libelous please) as you like but we will not allow personal abuse on this message board.
