Makes me wonder why anyone would have one if it isn't an emergency or for medical reasons.
I wasn't trying to criticise anyone, honest. I know there are lots of reasons for C sections and I guess 'medical reasons' got mixed into emergency for me - in any case, having one because it's necessary.
But I wonder if women are really aware of these possible side effects - never mind the too posh to push brigade, wasn't there something last year about every woman being given the right to have a Csection instead of vaginal birth if she wanted one? I know women can be scared of giving birth but this sounds a lot worse to me.
I understood what you meant! Posh Spice jumped into my head after reading your post! The 'to posh to push brigade!'
I had a emergency section in November last year and have no feeling yet either. I remember being on the table, blood pressure up and down and vomiting as they were doing the section and thinking to myself 'women must be mad to do this unless there is a very good reason!'
I have a very small scar (due to having a very small prem baby) and I have no overhang. My scar has just started to itch quite badly and it still looks red, but the Doctor says its healing nicely.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

It's still early days. I had the numb sensation with both my c-sections. However, it's almost 26 years since my last one and although the numbness is still there it's only around the scar tissue. Let's not forget, you've had major surgery, so relax and enjoy your baby.
Congratulations btw xIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.:kisses3:0 -
I had 2 C-sections, one 21 years ago and one 18 years ago. Both babies were laid across my womb. I had the numbness for years. It's only been in the last 5 or 6 that it's got better. Still got the aweful over hanging. My scars go in really deep. I tend to get sore alot which is uncomfortable and annoying. I have to keep putting cream on.

I've had two emergency sections, the last one 8 years ago; my scar is almost 6 inches long. I have an over-hang which didn't disappear even when I lost all the baby weight plus more - my midwife told me it wouldn't ever go without surgery. I still have a degree of numbness in the area above and below and on the scar itself but it isn't generalised so it will be numb in one place, have feeling immediately next to that and then numb again just a finger width from that, if you see what I mean. The numbness did improve as time went on but I don't think it will get any better than it is now.0

I forgot to add about it being sore - in the hot weather especially I often get problems with red sore skin around my scar, I think it's some sort of yeast or thrush and goes away quickly with antifungal cream. As I said, even loosing lots of weight after my last baby didn't get rid of the over-hanging skin and so it's similar really to the folds of skin overweight people often have. Nobody ever tells women having sections about the lifelong problems afterwards! At least I had a second section so they could tidy up my terribly poorly stitched scar from the first time and put my 'hairline' back in a straight line and where it went. :rotfl:0 -
Thank you again ladies. It's reassuring to know my problems are normal.
I also agree about trousers not fitting properly. I'm not so bothered about how it looks, but for practical reasons it would be nice if my belly was flatter!14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
Twenty six and twenty five years ago I had, first an emergency c section then an elective one.
STILL have areas of numbness, sometimes intense itching that can never be relieved and areas where touching the scar makes me feel sick. Still worth it though.0 -
I know it is not the same but I had similar numbness and over hang after a hysterectomy.
The numbness was a very strange sensation and I couldn't stand water falling directly on it in the shower and hated the feeling of certain materials against it - towels being the worst.
The over hang was upsetting as I am very slim. Apparently that was the problem, not a lot of skin to work withIt also meant that my clothes didn't sit right for some time.
4 years later the numbness has practically gone and I just have a small shelf that, apparently, only I notice! ANd my clothes fit just fine:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
I had an emergency section after 2 natural births, and my abdomen was completley numb for the best part of 5 years. Even almost 8 yrs on it's still quite numb. I have a neat scar and no overhang so think I was lucky in that respect, but my tummy feels a bit weird to touch (the sensation)0
