Thanks for all the feedback ladies - I guess I will just have to wait and see if sensation returns.

My overhang is because my scar has been done very very tight and it does not sit naturally in my body (and there is some fat). It's also not straight and the skin is very raised and bumpy along the scar line. Yes, I've seen my GP, hospital consultant and had all sorts of ultrasounds and tests to check everything is okay.

Heretolearn - I had my daughter vaginally and lost her, so I chose to have a ECS second time around. That said, I wouldn't advocate them - they are not a walk in the park.

Makes me wonder why anyone would have one if it isn't an emergency!

Don't have one myself but I think overhangs around stomach scars are quite common, if you think about it, it makes sense, the skin is stretched out in pregnancy but then sort of tightened in along one line - imagine cloth with a line of tight stitches puckering it up. I have an overhang on one side due to my appendix scar + pregnancy.

Numbness - I had nerve damage effecting my hand and the consultant explained that cut nerves re-generate very slowly. It took over a year for me to get full fairly normal feeling back in areas of complete numbness.

Some people don't have an emergency one, but need one for medical reasons iyswim?

I have M.E and I'm pregnant with my first but to give birth vaginally would really affect my health and could be dangerous, which is why I'm going to have an elective C-Section, if that makes sense?

Lilymay - I have the same 17 months after section. My scar is almost healed but it did split open in the middle section which is the worst part :o

My section was elective as I had SPD and my pelvis dis-placed totally  and there was no way I could have delivered dd2 any other way :o

I had dd1 natural given the choice a section is no walk in the park. :o
If you can think it........it will happen

Well in my case I was +15 days (i.e. 15 days overdue) and they had tried (unsuccessfully and painfully) to induce me on day +13 and +14 (oh yeah and the two or three sweeps the week before).
    Good enough answer ?

The only way I'll have another child after the horrific, massively traumatic birth I had with this one is by elective section. There is no way on this earth I could go through another vaginal delivery after the way I was treated and the events that unfolded... and no, it's not fear of the pain - hell I did fully dilated on two chuffing paracetamol... but fear of being denied pain relief, fear of being hauled around like a lump of meat, fear of the baby getting stuck again and the subsequent events involving an NNICU stay etc etc etc.

While I'm terrified of surgery in general - I currently see it as the only option for me where future birth's concerned.

iv had 4 sections, the numbness has remained after each of them but only near the scar my lower tummy has full sensation. I had an overhang with my first and tbh this has got worse with each subsequent section. Im having my last section (number 5) in september and after that hope to have a tummy tuck.

Sorry, I should have phrased that better.

Makes me wonder why anyone would have one if it isn't an emergency or for medical reasons.

I wasn't trying to criticise anyone, honest. I know there are lots of reasons for C sections and I guess 'medical reasons' got mixed into emergency for me - in any case, having one because it's necessary.

But I wonder if women are really aware of these possible side effects - never mind the too posh to push brigade, wasn't there something last year about every woman being given the right to have a Csection instead of vaginal birth if she wanted one? I know women can be scared of giving birth but this sounds a lot worse to me.

I was numb around my very very bumpy scar and v low abdomen area after my son was born 4 years ago- dont know if its connected but that was an emerg section (under GA) and I know they had trouble getting him out and I was badly torn/ tightly stitched inside. It was very painful as I got bigger and strectched during my 2nd pregnancy 2 years later . I had an elective section with that pregnancy and sensation returned, and everything felt completely normal again straight away. My scar was almost invisible too. It really felt like something was put right in my 2nd section.
FWIW- I hate the term "elective" section. I was desperate for vaginal deliveries with both of mine, but it wasnt to be. I don't feel like I "elected" to have the second section, but there was no other (safe) option.

    Sorry for misreading your post.:o

I too wonder why people would have one if it wasn't necessary. It's a major operation. I'd rather give birth naturally but unfortunately my health issues mean that I can't.:(

    Hi

Had an emergency section 5 years ago, and another emergency one two years ago, it has remained numb however the numbness didn't get any worse after the second one.

I too have the overhang, I hate it and although I am trying to lose weight is isn't going to improve the appearance of my belly infact from experience it gets worse :(

I am looking into having surgery on my belly once I have lost weight... I cant get trousers to fit as they either have to go under my belly on on top of it which then results in the pants looking wierd and not sitting right! I hate my stomach so much!
