Leftover pasta for lunch today and Sausage and mash for dinner. Not ideal in this weather, but that's what food I have available in the freezer so that's what I will have to have.

I fancy salad and chicken but refuse to buy any when I've got tons of other things in. :D

    Here, here. :T

Spoken like a true old styler!!:)

I'm back from the kidsclub. Biriani went down well and I have enough in the big thermal cooker to box up for future meals too! :)

I pulled out a cheesy courgette bake out to defrost this morning so that's tea sorted! We also have a rhubarb crumble in the fridge from yesterday's baking session over so that's pud sorted:j

I know it's a hot day but food is food, whether hot or cold. At least the kids are getting their fruit n veg down them

Everybody, don't forget the cheap bacon tomorrow at Lidl. 69p per pack of back bacon!!!!!! Whoop whoop:j

I am gonna get 8 tomorrow and 8 sunday. I know that is more than a third of the weekly budget which starts tomorrow , but that's the way I roll!!!! I only have a wee small shopping list for next week as my stocks are increasing very nicely, thank you very much indeed!

Have a lovely day in the sun folks.

    JJ

Feel for you, I was going to have sausage and mash too, but cant face it just too hot, so I have let it go cold and now have cold sausage and potato with sweetcorn salad instead.

Ooo - thanks for that idea! I might do a cold potato salad instead (if it can be made with Desiree potatoes - I've only done with new potatoes!) Much better if I can. I'll start searching. :)

I met two of my DGC from school and then looked after them after DD collected on her way home from work. :D So pleased I am having an easy dinner - DGC do tire me out! Mr F is away in London on a business trip so will just have a JJ Herby Cheese bread when he returns. He is treated to lunch by a client on these trips. I am having a HM prawn curry from the freezer. Just need to cook some rice and nuke curry in MW.

  • Evening everyone,
I have been given a huge cauliflower and a cabbage. I have blanched the cauli and it has been portioned up ready to go into the freezer. Do i have to blanche the cabbage or can i just slice it and put it in the freezer?
    Thankyou in advance.

NickJW - Potato salad is fine with any potatoes, and hot or cold. I chop up the potaoes into chunks or leave them whole if they're hot or small and add chives or finely chopped raw onion or spring onions (39p from Aldo this week) and then add mayonnaise and a dash of lemon juice or salad dressing (tangy enough without the lemon) and black pepper. Yum! As you can see, many variations and all good and all by eye not measured. I like a finely chopped raw chilli to give it kerpow too

To those of you with frrezers full of crumble - I freeze the fruit and the crumble separately in plastic bags or re-used ice cream boxes and assemble immediately before putting it in the oven - takes up much less space in plastic bags! (not that I need encouraging to store more - my name should be Suffolk Siege lass!)

Blown it for May and I blame it on me. Stopped meal planning on the 18th, went shopping on 19th and 20th with no list and back to my old ways. Everything is back up to stuffed and I am back to storing food for the supermarket and paying them to do it again. I had to throw away another blown tin and a tub of Spreadable Lurpak today. I am very cross with me and I have been very naughty. Sorry Flo, thought I would pre-empt you! :rotfl:

Good luck especially all the Newbies - well worth reading the first few posts. There is some excellent start up advice and links to second purse (Mothership's original and Linz's great spreadsheet) to get you going if you want to hoard (I'm trying not to) in post 2 and loads of recipes and our target list that Helen Jelly maintains

    All the best

Re blanching veg before freezing, I never do it. i always freeze things on a baking tray, them put in a bag when frozen, otherwise you get a solid lump and end up having to cook it all! Other than that, no fussing.

I now have a question - I've always made cakes with caster sugar, but it's twice the price of granulated. Can I use granulated instead of caster?

    TIA
