Good for you Florenceem - I think you do a marvellous job on such a small amount of money - you are an inspiration to us all!

I however, am easily distracted.....DS1 is at a friends for a s/o, DS2 is at a friends birthday tea, and DD has a friend for tea and s/o (are you keeping up.....?).

Decided that I would buy pizza and garlic bread for DD and friend and as I was out all day visiting a friend myself, I stopped off at our local petrol station on the way home from school - the shop is now a M$S - very dangerous! Spent £6.75 on said pizza and garlic bread, plus gum and some yum yums :o

DH will be home late tonight, so we will be having a much deserved takeout (different budget).

    Sig updated.
That is where we differ - I wouldn't buy pizza or yum yums - prefer HM.

Its that time of the week where I sit down and attempt a shopping list and meal plan. I hate doing it but needs must:mad:.
I don't need much in the way of household stuff (if anything) and the dog is well stocked so its just me to buy for.
There quite a bit in the freezer and cupboard so it'll be mostly fresh stuff.
I got my clubcard vouchers today - a paltry £2! Just shows how much my shopping habits have changed - its nearly all Aldi, B&M and the greengrocers these days.

    :o

    I feel so ashamed. :o

We went to the geological field trip and met up with a huuuuuuge amount of families. Some old acquaintances, some new faces. Well, we met up with dear old friends that have driven down and stayed in accommodation. As we rarely see them (they live 4 hours from us) we wanted to share a meal with them. We asked them to come back after for a curry (my lovely rajmah) but the travelodge was in a completely different direction. They suggested going for a meal locally instead:eek: OH gave me the puppy dog eyes.
I was a bit too ashamed to admit that the meal we purchased was actually nearly the cost of a weeks grocery spend.
The only justification is that we only see them about 3 times a year. :(

I can't believe we have just blown over £20 on a meal when we have one in the fridge ready to reheat and serve!!!! To add insult to injury, I caught OH sneaking hot drinks at the visitor's cafe whilst on the field trip:eek:
I took 2 bottles of ready diluted cordial with us, along with our dinner so no justification for it at all.

It is such a battle when you are the only one who has self restraint in the family.

    Aaargh.

I too have fussy cats and was throwing away loads of food when they were on the tins:mad:, so only sachets for me too (well not me, but the cats:rotfl:)

They have a sachet each in the morning and one each in the evening with half a small cup of biscuits to keep them going. Works out cheaper this way coz at least they eat it all.;)

I too stock up when Felix AGAIG is on offer, coz again that's they only one they like, but sometimes throw in a Whis*as so they don't get fed up of the same old taste:D
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying!:rotfl:

    Today I paid £5.70 on a taxi and £1.90 on a bus.

On the way from the bus to home I spent £2.09 in Superdrug (10p nail enamel and £1.99 hair dye - both YS).

40p in Oxfam on a 2012 calender because not practical to share one with DD now we live in different places :rotfl:.

£4.95 in 99p Store which includes 2 x toilet training seats because toddler DGD decided today that he wants to use "big toilet" :j

I did see various YS things in Sainsbobs, but just small reductions and the freezer MUST be emptied a bit, so was very good and left them on the shelves.

    Happy weekend everyone! :T

Not quite the same, but I was tidying earlier and found £4 of vouchers :D I obviously spend too much in MrT! We don't have an @ldi or l!dl near us though so I do my main shopping there and it's normally the cheapest for petrol too.

Decided to have rice with the salmon to save buying potatoes. Still need to pop out later for a couple of bits. Will go out after dinner so we hopefully don't impulse buy. Fancied flapjacks so they're sitting there waiting to go in the oven with the salmon :) also hopefully resist any sweeties when we're out.

    Hi all,
Struggled to make something for dinner for myself and daughter this evening but managed to resist the urge to go out and buy a pizza or two. I could hear a chorus of OS voices telling me to go look in my cupboards for some inspiration instead! Of course I could have made HM pizza but did that only a few days ago and didn't have the energy. So I used up things which needed eating instead.

This month I have been truly good thanks to you all but I have failed to stay within budget, however, I have spent about half of what I spent last month. Today is the last day before my payday so I am declaring now....

I will go for the same budget next month and hope with inceased NSD's and a little more "eating what we have in" will keep me within budget.

Thanks to you all for your wonderfully witty inspiration! Loving being part of this thread :T

DH spent money on train fare to Brum to meet a recruitment consultant and a beer....I spent money on a Costa hot choc with friends. Not too bad, considering.

Morning, I have spent the past few days trying to catch up with the thread but can't so thought I would just pop in and say hi!

My monthly spend has gone up to £374.55 . It goes to show how adding in the beer etc at the weekend brings it up and how much money is spent there! I am going to try so hard to keep it as low a poss but we have my sister coming down next weekend...

TBH it got me a bit down earlier in the week as am being so good by cooking from scratch, using all leftovers etc but just got to remain positive.

On another note re: leftover cornflakes. I make HM chicken nuggets with chicken, covered in mayonnaise and then rolled in bashed up cornflakes and then cooked. Sounds a bit odd but is actually yummy (well, that's what my kiddies tell me!)

    Have a nice day xxx

Hi there jedi - we all have bad days. Don't beat yourself up about it. You are thinking about what you're spending - that's the important bit. Could your sister bring a bottle? Maybe as a thank you for you providing the food? Perhaps leave this thread on the computer ;)
I don't drink alcohol so I'm not much good for advice, but could you maybe make yourself an allowance of ??? cans/bottles. How about alternating with some cheaper 'posh' non-alcoholic 'wine'.
The chicken with cornflakes sounds good - nice and crunchy :)

    Well done EWO :T
As I said above - we all have bad days (or months ) and it's not worth getting stressed about what's done and gone. Onward and upward :)
