Its a bit sickening to see these gas fitters jumping to the defence of an obvious attempt of fraud trying to flog an overpriced boiler to an old lady.It says it all when the most fervent defender is bragging about going to a Porsche showroom no less.If only the taxman would make cash payments illegal to any plumber, gas fitter, plasterer etc.

Lol the porsche was in the showroom adjoining the vw garage my van was being repaired in, but I also run a reasonably successful property business with all my legal taxes paid in full....how much more do I need to justify my lifestyle?. It was also used to exaggerate a point.
I was totally unaware that you had seen installation the lady was being quoted for or what was specified, I hadn't and therefore am completely unqualified to say if it is over or underpriced.
Probably also advise looking at a dictionary definition of the word fraud.

maybe you should re watch the program as no one had a boiler installed by BG after the advice.

yes but they would have, but because they got another plumber advice, the truth came out,
what about the man who was told to threw his parts in the of the bin..and then got another plumber and told him your boilers can be repaired for spare parts .. he had to take them out of the bin
my brother inlaw said they use to tell him every year ...ooooh this isnt going to last the winter, you need a new boiler.
this went on every year when got it serviced.
    shame on you british gas...
every time i see british gas van im going to think of timeshare sales tatics..

The throwing in the bin part was the worst complaint of the lot as far as I'm concerned, trade waste in a domestic bin is a massive nono.
I am genuinely amazed that with the enormous volume of repairs bg make that these 3 are the best they could find to try and slander the business with.

Have to say I was surprised when the head of service categorically denied engineers get any commission for generating sales lead.

Year end bonus, performance related pay?
We'll sack you if you don't sell any boilers?

Watchdog would have been working on that story with a team of journalists for months and , seriously, with over a million jobs to choose from...that was it?

Pincher I guess you could call it a play on words but Robinson never asked if engineers got commission on providing a lead she kept asking if it was paid for selling a boiler. You could see her struggling as she couldn't remember her 'killer' question.

Last year (or was it the year before) BG condemned my daughters boiler on a service visit due to the case seal not sealing and could not get the part. which I found on t'internet at £2.50!.
He asked if she wanted a visit from a BG sales rep but he had to tell her that if she accepted he would benefit by a cash sum, cannot remember but it was either £15 or £25.

British Gas always liked to condemn stuff. My mum pretty much kidnapped a gas fitter one day about 20-odd years ago when he condemned her boiler for something daft. It got sorted out quickly...

I was somewhat surprised at that statement too that aside I speak to their engineers on sites everyday and find them to be very straight and helpful for me in my role.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

I thought the show was a fabrication. For example,to suggest that a brand new multifunctional gas valve can be supplied and fitted to a boiler by a gas engineer for £70 as shown on the program is complete rubbish. For a Baxi wall mounted BF boiler as shown and without checking up,I'd guess that the gas valve alone would be in the region of £80 plus vat before any labour charges.

Again,Anne Robinson with her twisted personal hidden agenda against British Gas.

I'm not saying they are perfect ,no one is..but i am sure there are thousands of customers who are very happy with their service.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
