220 working days?, in my dreams pal... do 160 long days in the winter half alone! 80% of my work is breakdowns and out of that this year 84% of that was repaired in one visit with no return. Why would you want me in your house more than 30 mins if thats how long it takes me to do the job?, is that so you can accuse me of timewasting to give you something else to winge about?0 -

There seems to be mixed views on what constitutes a boiler service.
I have two old non-condensing boilers(one a combi) that BG serviced for years and I have the full manufacturer's servicing schedule for both.
In defence of BG, they carried out the full servicing every time I was around when they called. That said the schedule is incredibly simple and does not take long - 20 minutes a boiler? It consists of cleaning and visual inspection. There isn't a single adjustment, apart from size of pilot light flame, required.
I had the service more for the insurance aspects of a callout if something went wrong - particularly as I was away from the house a great deal - and in a previous house my wife got royally ripped off by a plumber.
The price of the scheme soared in recent years - they wanted something like £500 a year for both 'systems' so I decided to 'self insure' and frankly wish I had done so years ago.0 -

Sorry if it came across as a personal attack:o - it was more meant as a reflection on the time allowed per call by BG - I have mine serviced by an independent who takes ~ 1 hour inc cleaning, pressure checks, paperwork etc - I also assumed that you were working some sort of standard 40 hour week - obviously you must be doing a lot of overtime!!0 -
considering at the end of last weeks program they said it was british gas seeing as the program description in the tv guides say its british gas, il take a good guess without seeing it, it was BRITISH GAS!
In my defence I will say that I didn't watch last weeks prog. My 7 day listing mag didn't say it was BG (what do the Sunday Times know?) and the freeview EPG didn't say either. I expected it was though.0 -
Don't follow what your saying prosaver. If you are paying for a maintainence / insurance service and the time comes after 20 odd years that the manufacturer ceases making some of the parts for your particular boiler, would you prefer to be kept in the dark paying your premiums for years until your boiler broke down and then told the part was obsolete and the boiler unrepairable?. Alternatively you could be informed about the reduced parts availability situation as soon as it is raised as an issue, offered the option of a boiler replacement and given the choice of continuing with the plan or not which is the current position.
the bottom line is that the customers were lied to and got conned in buying a new boiler + they were really expensive,:(“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Ann Robinson is not impartial since a few years ago,she had a personal experience with BG and was not happy with their service. She knows nothing about gas engineering and has her own narrow agenda to drive. Her opinion is almost worthless and certainly tainted.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

if you watch the program ..the bg techs were saying what your saying , however the parts were plentiful... please watch the link i put in, previously ...

Watched it when it aired, one story was about comparing a quote for a replacement system with the price of a repair which was undoubtably not required anyway. One was a boiler which was reading high on the emissions for a notoriously awful model and was misdiagnosed with a corroded flue adapter. One was a hopefully genuine mistake at identifying a part. As far as I'm aware 1 had a quote and none had a boiler replacement.
I went to a porsche showroom last year, guy told me the carrera was an improvement on my old motor and he told me how much it was....was I conned too?0 -
