  • Over the years I have had a large number of credit cards but I dont know if I have ever paid PPI. As a taxpayer I am aware that a number of banks are using my tax money to pay off these claims so I want to find out if I can get in on the act since I appear to be losing out. Can anyone recommend a reputable claim service that can find out if I am owed anything but without any card details etc? Is this feasible?

    Is this a wind up?

Thank you for posting your joke post. It gave me a smile.

  • I received a letter in the post from CPP last year saying that I may have a claim. I hadn't realised I still had PPI on the credit card and promptly cancelled it. I did nothing further. Another letter was then sent, this time I read it properly. I thought well, why not, it's only a stamp and a bit of my time and never really expected anything. I was delighted when a few weeks later I got a cheque for £408, an early Christmas present :j
I'm now helping my brother put in several claims for insurance he took out on loans he has taken out in the past to pay for cars and consolidate his debts (I know!!).

What a great thread I have had an enjoyable hour or so reading it top to tail. In and amongst there are some funny posts (for both and good and bad reasons).

However, it sets out compelling reasons that under no circumstances use a CMC. @addedvaluebob and @chuckl1es appear overwhelmed in face of evidence to the contary.

It reinforces my view that a siginficant number of CMC's are a bigger scandal than the original miss-sellling of PPI.

I thought you might like to see this from a business called My Claim Solved .com this month. It relates to buying a pension, not PPI but is a good illustration.

    They say

"Our client was not offered an open market option when they purchased their annuity"

    but they also say

"Our client was advised to transfer their pension pot and in the process they lost out on their guaranteed annuity rates with their original pension provider."

These are mutually exclusive. If you take a guaranteed annuity rate then you cannot have the Open Market Option with a different provider.

So which one do they want to admit is the lie?

In fact they both are. Open Market Options were taken from several companies - after checking what the old provider would offer. There was also a complaint that widow's benefits were not discussed, when the annuity purchased had one and that an ill health annuity was not considered when it was.

Perhaps the apologists for the ambulance chasers would like to comment - but its a cloudless sky and I see no pigs up there.
  • My wife tried to get PPI refunded herself but didn't get any replies in months, so went with Charterhouse Claims. On the plus side we received notification of £2000+ refund, on the bad they got her name wrong on the cheques when we did receive them, so we couldn't pay them in, The corrected cheques have not yet been received (even after another 4 weeks of waiting), but Charterhouse are chasing payment for their share! They're getting too aggressive, but it's them who's cocked up! We're not even sure they're really the ones that got the ball rolling, it may have been the original claim made by ourselves.

At this point we've stated bluntly that to get any money they'll need to get their act together, as since we've not had the refund in a form we can use, they'll get nothing until we do!! Don't use Charterhouse Claims under any circumstances
  • I was miss sold PPI By the Tipton And Coseley Building society that I paid for 15 years !

I was lied to by both Stanton fisher and Hidenda who said "yes we go after them" but after 3 months and them trying to recover a couple of quid here and there they admitted they didn't cover the Tipton and Coseley. Just lies.

They also lied about not covering Tipton and Coseley. It has nothing to do with the lender. It could have been any lender out there and the outcome would have been the same. You bought from a broker, not a lender and you bought pre-regulation and you are likely timebarred (if we ignored it being pre-regulation). So, the CMC gave you a load of BS about why it failed.

  • I am currently using Consumer Refund Service regarding a claim with M and S on a loan and credit card. The process began in January and to date has not been resolved. They advised me on 17 February that they had found PPI on both the loan and card. I completed the questionnaire immediately and returned it to them. It took them nearly 3 weeks to send me the relevant paperwork to sign. I used a company as I had no paperwork or records of either the loan or card, but am now pretty fed up with their service. I asked on 21 March for an update on the progress and was told they had sent all of the paperwork to M and S who had 8 weeks to issue a final response. I have emailed them again to ask for the status of the claim but to date no response! So wish I had seen Martins programme recently before I had embarked on this process!!!
