I think you can get online resource for that work it out for you.
Failing that the american website that list lots of food including the micronutritients. It may take a while.
however this could save you money on meats as well. You may be eating more protein than you require. Protien is often the most expensive food group.
its also a good guide to see your total kcal intake as well. so if you do get to fat/not enough muscle you not what to adjust etc.0 -
If you want to shovel in and get fat then surely you need to be eating a lot of carbs ? Protein will make you feel full. Granted 58% of protein gets made into glucose but with carbs it's a much simpler process and cheaper too.
So how about wholemeal bread, brown rice, spelt, quinoa, couscous, polenta, pasta etc ?
I don't eat bread or cous cous, but I do eat brown rice, and pasta. Never tried polenta and I can't cook quinoa to make it taste nice. I heard there is quinoa breakfast cereal out there somewhere but I am unsure where to buy it and I bet it is expensive. I would have prefered to stick soley with brown rice but £5 for 10kg of broken basmati rice decided that one for me, plus white is tastier (again, I don't know how to make it taste nice).<<iguanapunk>>0 -

Yeah, it's all very time intensive. I am slowly but surely writing my diet out. I want to know exactly what I am eating on a daily basis, that way there is no guess work.<<iguanapunk>>0 -
Some people on the low carb support thread use fitnessday which sorts out all the nutrients etc for you.
How I do white rice for OH is rinse it in a sieve with boiling water to get starch out, plonk in boiling water (with teeny bit of oil added) generally 2 cups water added per cup of rice but depends on how the rice cooks. Give it good stir, stick lid on, turn heat down a little bit, don't touch for 8 mins. Look and if it is still wet leave it a bit longer keep checking. Eventually you'll find it's almost dry with big holes in the rice layer and looks fluffy soft grains. You can then do the boiling water/ieve thing again if you want or drain and stir in some ghee or butter or spices or coconut oil or whatever. Fork it fluffy and serve.
Alternatively you could buy boil in the bag rice which is foolproof.0 -
Have you thought about trying lean turkey mince instead of the chicken breasts. Asda do a less than 3% fat one its £2 for 340g I use 3 pks to make a chilli. (onion, 2 cans tomatoes, spices, 1 chopped chilli etc) I get 10 portions at 30 grams protein per portion. Even if you doubled the amount to 60g protein. You would be paying £12 for 10 meals which is half the price of your chicken breast.
You can also make turkey muffins. Put mince in a bowl with chopped onion and spices. 1 cup oats or 2 if you are going to double up and add 6 pkts of mince. Add a few egg whites and bind together. Grease a muffin tin form into big balls put in the tin and bake for 30 mins, gas mark 6. (3 pks will make 12 balls) Eat hot or cold they stay moist and freeze well.Big Thanks to all those who post competitions you are stars!0 -
Good stuff guys!
We do have a blender, so that's some money saved on the oats there
I once made turkey burgers and they were an absolute disaster hahaha added way to much egg so when I cooked it the outside was like scrambled eggs. Not very appetising...<<iguanapunk>>0 -
Most people don't need more than 1.5g/kg bodyweight of protein a day. Athletes and bodybuilders could take that up to 2g/kg but any more than that is a waste really. The body will just burn it off as energy which it could do far more cheaply on fats/carbs.
For cheap carbs, try Tesco Value spaghetti, less than 50p a pack and is a great "bulking" carb“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Morning
I havent read all the thread so apologies if I duplicate anything.
I get my meat from Westin Gourmet online butchers and it is fantastic QUALITY for reasonable prices once you get over the initial outlay. Eg A pack of bacon is 45 slices and around £12, compared with Tesco finest (for the quality) it works out a LOT cheaper. They also do Body building packs or you can make up your own pack, the more you spend the bigger the discount. Try here

And yes most of what I buy, we freeze down and it is still better quality than supermarket stuffs IMO
Hope it helps
ETA You coud try the new customer pack for startersMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Hi
my oh is a bodybuilder too, we tend to get chicken breast / pork loin steaks on the 4 for £12 at tesco if we cant get to the meat market.
he usually buys all his powders etc from discount supplements, and their delivery is fast too and usually fab special offers.
He has me making him homemade meal replacement protein bars - you can find loads of recipes on line, every week il make a batch, they can be quite expensive in the shops .
Eggs arent a problem for us because his mum has chickens,Absolutely gutted and heartbroken0 -
