Changing schools in year 10
Comments
-
We went to see the new school on Friday morning and despite it being a older school and clearly needing a lot of money spending on it he wants to move because its not about the d!cor is it, its about him being happy and settled in a bully free zero tolerance school. Hopefully the move shouldn't take too long and he is quite prepared to stay after school to catchup on any course work that he needs to do.
I would like to thank you for all your replies and help.

I changed schools in the May when i was in Year 10. We moved 200 miles away and all my exam boards were different. A lot of things got taught twice and other things not at all. I came out with okish grades bit i was never going to get staight A's anyway. I was also being bullied quite badly and when we moved i was never bullied again.
I found a fab group of friends, stayed and did A levels and got into uni. I graduated with a 2:1 so i don't think that the move did me any harm at all. In fact weighing everything up it was the best thing my parents did for me. We moved because of my dad's job.
GCSE's were hard but i worked hard and my aspirations changed at my new school. At the old school, uni wasn't the done thing at the new school it was and it was the making of me!
It's a hard choice to make and i hope this gives you another view.0 -
although Year 10 isn't really a good time to move, if it was my son and he wanted to change schools then I would let him.
Even though he is achieving good grades where he is, he will also grow as a person in an environment where he is happy
Wish you good luck and hope the move happens very soon0 -
I wouldn't hesitate if it is as bad as you say. Exams can always be taken again, they are not confined to yr 11. If it will make him happy, sod the exam results, they will come when he is settled and not at the mercy of the bullies. I wish him well, and well done you for listening and acting rather than waiting till it is too late.0

I was bullied at school by the daughter of one of my father's friends and my parents actually asked my head not to expel the girl. I didn't truant but I flunked stuff out of rebellion and ended up leaving school before A levels. Years later I did more A levels and vocational stuff and ended up going to uni, because I wanted to. I think myself if he's unhappy and bullied he needs your support and he can always do college or uni later. Not doing well in GCSEs doesn't mean a full stop where education is concerned.0
