Nationwide Mortgages - How long??

  • Latest from me is that NW say they haven't received my DD mandate (sent by post) OR proof of income (faxed by branch manager). Both sent over a week ago... Their only answer was to send them again. It is the SECOND time I've sent both.

What a complete joke... They don't realise that I have to work and can't be spending hours on the phone trying to get through then running around getting stuff faxed in branch again.

Nationwide are making a stressful time about 10x more stressful at the moment.

Who can tell me what I can do to make them do their job?
  • I was keeping a close eye on this thread after we applied for a Nationwide mortgage. Here's our timeline:

    6/9: applied for full mortgage
    16/9: lenders valuation carried out
    30/9: offer issued

It took what felt like forever because Nationwide seemed to want a new document every other day (also, documents we previously supplied got lost in the system), but they didn't inform us by text/email. There was also a problem with the online system so we had no way of knowing what was going on or that they needed anything from us. I took to harassing them by phone on a daily basis.

Some advisers were great and very helpful, others utterly useless. If I found I got saddled with a useless one I just said thank you, hung up then called back to speak to someone else.

    So glad it's over!
  • *fret* I am seeing Nationwide today to make my formal application (got AIP already)
    Wish me luck...

Nationwide seriously driving us nuts. After all the delays, we finally had our mortgage valuation survey done yesterday. Still waiting for outcome on that and now they wanted us to provide additional bank statements for the past several months. We've provided this to them one page per file and they've complained that it's too big for their inbox so we send it to them in parts. To be then told that because there are too many files/documents, they will need to scan it and this may take several days(!).

It sounded to me that either they are using an ancient technology or they are sending the scanned sheets using pigeon as their courier... *sigh*

  • I applied in branch and had no problems apart from having to wait ages for a valuation. They didn't want any documents other than 2 payslips and some ID! We got our offer over text at 2pm on the day of our valuation, a month after we applied.

All the people on this thread who seem to be having problems have applied online. I assume this is because the online mortgage team are running ragged with the sudden upturn in buying. We applied in branch and had one named consultant, she gave us a mobile number which was a nice touch.

    Now on to the update!

20/08/13 - AIP : Just asked for payslips.
    21/08/13 - Valuation booked for 11/09/13.
    11/09/13 - Valuation
12/09/13 - Valuation approved and Mortgage offered.
    04/10/13 - Exchange.

Happened really suddenly, I have been really busy and will be for the next two weeks. We are hoping to get the keys asap so completion is set for Friday 11th! That would make the total time from offer to completion about 7 weeks.
Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!
    Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j
  • Hi Odette, we applied at the branch and so far it's been a bumpy ride and an emotional rollercoaster as we are trying to jump hoops after hoops.. :(

We are working on a deadline which is getting tighter and tighter now and we've told the mortgage consultant since two months ago.. sigh..

Congrats on your good news though.

I so hope we are going to receive good news soon.

I am having a nightmare with Nationwide at the moment.
I have received a Mortgage offer in place, survey was done and everything seemed to be ok.
They have requested an employer reference four weeks ago and since then there is something missing. Last week the fully completed reference was sent 4 times by HR, Payroll and HR Manager. Now they are telling me that they have never received the reference. It takes 48 hours for them to put it on their system and again 24 hours to get back to the financial advisor!
I had to exchange within 28 days( new build) and the builders already have extended once. Now my reservation will end tomorrow and there is no Mortgage in place!!! Was anyone successful with complaining and compensation?

The distribution method used makes no difference to the speed a Nationwide application is processed.

A broker will obtain everything likely before submitting an application. A branch advisor would do the same.

If you apply online, you have to ensure you supply everything needed in the format the lender asked for it. If you do that, you should not have any difficulty.

All applications are different. Different valuation/surveyor area, different loan to value and different applicant profile. This determines the processing time.
