Nationwide Mortgages - How long??

  • We've had a really hard time just getting through to them.

We called and were told we had to visit a branch because our address wasn't current and updating it could only be done in person.

We went to the branch, who wouldn't see us, but updated our address so that we could call customer service.

We called customer service only to be told that they couldn't help us, we needed to visit a branch.

We called to make an appointment with a branch only to be told they won't see and we need to call customer service.

Seriously? We have our current home loan with NW, so we wanted to see what they would offer for a remortgage and then a new mortgage on another house. I guess we'll take our two mortgages somewhere else, because they're clearly not interested!

We are having a really slow time with Nationwide due to them needing more employment information (husband had a 5 year contract with NHS).

His work only received Nationwide's request for information on the third attempt and then managed to enter the wrong dates of employment. Nationwide obviously queried this and then started asking for more information (and his work always seems to be uncontactable!)-the saga seems to have been going on for more than 4 weeks.

We thought we would be a straightforward case, but we're beginning to feel like we will never get this mortgage!

We had our meeting with mortgage advisor on Thu 16th May, he submitted everything on Fri 17th and we got a "product reserved" and "application received" text same day. We also got a "valuation booked" text, but as we are in Scotland this was simply a case of them requesting the home report valuation. On 21st May we got a text saying they had received a satisfactory valuation report. Yesterday (22nd) I had to fax some additional pay info to mortgage advisor who sent it straight off to NW same day. Today (23rd) we got our formal offer. A week from start to finish - phew!

Just have to hope all the conveyancing goes as smoothly.

Our valuation came back as ok on Monday 20th, which was super quick as he'd only visited the property at 10am that morning!

They have now requested two employers references as I have 2 jobs. That's all they have requested so far along with payslips... anyone else just had this amount of info requested. Seems to be moving quite fast!

Got my mortgage offer through yesterday! phew! My timeline..

    DIP - 15th May
    Full application - 16th May
    Valuation booked - 17th May
Valuation carried out - 20th May
Formal mortgage offer received - 23rd May

Done - in under a week! Very happy with the service:T

Thats great Jamja & 84 Guy. We are still waiting for our survey to be done, it's booked for 29th May. It would have been sooner but they could not get in touch with the vendor:mad: So we have to wait until Wed for the survey but everything else has been signed off so hopefully it will only be a few days after that for the foraml offer - fingerscrossed.

Nationwide - absolute joke. Have sent out our offer to the wrong solicitor despite being told 3 times/on the application that we are not using the free legal solicitor and having emailed our supposed contact several times turns out the fool is on holiday and has not bothered to pass this on to someone sensible before he went. Nationwide - I do not have hours in the day to chase you up or hang on the phone forever - some of us have other things like work and kids that need looking after.

Now turns out the form cannot be resent until a week from today which means a 2 week delay in a house sale where the vendor is already getting fed up with how long Nationwide are taking.

Avoid these customer service jokers if you can, they couldn't care less about your application or how stressful moving can be.

Rant over...good luck to everyone else.

Hi just seen this post, well we have had a nightmare with nationwide mortgages, seem to be a different kettle of fish compared to the building society, but that's another story I will post another time. I had problems galore and also changed solicitor after one week of instructing. We did everything by phone without a broker, the best thing I would advise u to do is go into a nationwide branch on Tuesday speak to the manager and ask him / her to contact the mortgage dept on your behalf and get them to email the revised doc and then bring to solicitor, this hopefully will speed things up.

Also, if nationwide say they will put a document in the post ensure that they send it out first class. We had the last document sent out on the 10th May from Northampton and it arrived in kent on the 18th!,

Anther also! Keep a log of every phone call you make, second biggest mistake I made after going with nationwide mortgages.

I finally exchanged contracts yesterday, saga with nationwide has been ongoing since January - I would never recommend them.

    Sorry for any typos
  • Finally got my mortgage offer today. Everything was done pretty quickly apart from the valuation which took ages because Countrywide are so booked up (I'm in London, this may be a factor).

Offer came back with a condition around fixing an issue with the rendering but I can't actually see the details of the issue because I haven't received the homebuyer's report yet. Will need to wait for that before I can proceed.

    Hi,

I beleive that Nationwide do credit checks on you to issue the DIP. Maybe because they were closed it's stuck in the system somewhere, might be worth ringing them. Our valuation is tomorrow so fingers crossed it won't be long now:)
