Just read your post before - hope Mr Lucky is ok overnight. Does he eat more than normal? Mr SA does - I can't fill him up! Quality of life is worth much more than any amount of money by the way.

He does eat a lot SA. He has had 2 huge bowls of bolognaise pasta bake and then a bowl of fruit and yogurt. I'd be physically sick if I ate all that and he still seems hungry .

When you describe the movement in his hand and chewing, they sound like seizures to me (simple partial seizures). I'm not a health professional but I do have epilepsy.

I hope he doesn't have any more seizures tonight.

    Best wishes x

Thanks for that info choc! DH normally has full tonic clonic seizures that build in the way I described but then continue on to full body fits. I hadn't even considered partial seizures!! I still feel that we are in the learning stages even though he has been having them for 18 months now, each time is different enough for it not to be considered his 'normal pattern'.
I'm sorry to learn you have epilepsy too, and I hope it doesn't affect you too much Xx

I usually get partial seizures, so normally the seizure is confined to a very small part of the brain. Depending on what behaviour happens, it is possible to work out, broadly, which bit of the brain is affected.

Sometimes, the seizure then spreads across the whole of the brain (secondary generalisation is the posh term for this) and, as you say, turns into either a tonic clonic or an absence.

I would say it is a good sign that the seizure is not generalising and perhaps it means the medication is stopping the seizure from spreading.

I haven't had a seizure for six months so keeping my fingers crossed that they are under control now.

While I was instore DH and the boys were supposedly waiting outside, but when I came out they were nowhere to be seen . I assumed they must have gone into one of the shops nearby but after a few minutes there was no sign so I rang DH to see where he was. Top and bottom of it was that he didn't know . They'd gone for a wander and he didn't know the way back!!! Neither of us know Hexham very well, but all I can say is thank god for the Abbey. DH asked directions to there and I met them there. So frightening :( My stomach was doing flip flops!!

By any chance, do both of you have smart phones? It might be worth throwing on a tracking software like Life360 (american, but works on both apple and android) or even google plus (then locations). It'll show your location, as well as his. He might not be able to navigate back to you using it, but you should be able to get to his position.

Great news on both weight and debt reductions, Lucky!

Very useful info from Chocforever. :T

What mental exercises is DH doing to try and help build new neural pathways?

I love Hexham. If one has to get lost, it's not a bad place to wander around finding oneself - and as you discovered, there are plenty of open, kind people who will point the way to a rendezvous. ;)

Oo Hexham, that's where I discovered that DH (who was then my "bit of stuff" to quote my SIL) had no road-sense as a pedestrian when he nearly stepped into the path of a car. He has no head-injury excuses though. Now I keep firmly hold of his hand whilst crossing the road.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • Thanks everyone :A. DH had no further episodes and slept fairly soundly. As usual I hardly slept a wink worrying every time he turned over and as a result I'm a bit of a basket case today!!

Chocforever that's awesome news that you have been seizure free for 6 months :T. Long may it continue. Thanks once again for opening my eyes to other possibilities and seeing things through different eyes.

Lifeforms we do have smartphones and I shall look into that thank you. I can track him by logging in to his Runkeeper but only when he has it running, and I didn't even think to use it yesterday. I honestly felt like I had lost 3 children and I panicked :o.

Robin, you are quite right, Hexham and it's residents are lovely. It's so picturesque and unspoilt. My Dad used to be Manager of a well known drug-store chain and for a while he managed the Hexham store. It's still there and I had fun recounting the tale to DS1 of going to work with my Dad one Sunday (stores were closed on Sundays then!) and helping him change the prices on everything, as the half penny had been abolished and was no longer valid from the monday. I remember thinking what a cheek it was that CurlyWurly's were going up from 11.5p to 12p :rotfl:. It was in the days that every item was ticketed individually so it was a big task, but I thought I was the bees knees helping Dad. I was probably about 11. Happy memories from before it all went sour.

Satchmo, make sure you hold his hand tightly :rotfl:.

  • Just checked and the half penny was abolished Dec 1984 so I was 6!!! I thought I must have been older because I remember it so vividly!

Cheers MiT! So close I can start to dream now!! I'm sure when I first snowballed my DFD was something ridiculous like 2027, so to be looking at next year now is awesome.

DH is supposed to be going out for the day with his best mate tomorrow if he is up to it. They are off to see some road racing. I hope he can go, and more so that it goes without a hitch. Best mate is well versed in administering meds should a seizure occur and he knows to make sure DH eats regularly etc so I'm not (overly) worried. Final call will be made when I see how he is in the morning though.
