Thank you both, very wise words!
Pooh I shall search online thank you. It's nice to hear that what is going on now doesn't necessarily have to impact on their adult behaviours! Good luck for continued weightloss Xx
SBO, I wasn't aware you'd had a breakdown sorry. Good for you in recognising you make the odd excuse, but it sounds like you have a very good outlook overall. I hope things continue to improve for you. It's tough being a parent is an understatement!!!! XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Actually you did! You maybe didn't say it in those exact words, but it's obvious in all your posts how crazy you are about DH and that your family are your number 1 priorityLove reading your updates, the good and the bad. Nobody said life was going to be easy. But so long as it's worth it

Still can't shift this stinking cold
Went to gym this afternoon anyway in the hopes of sweating it out, which did work for a while but my energy didn't last long and I only managed 350 cals in 40 minutes.
Sis has been here for tea tonight and she then watched the boys while we went to DS1's parents evening. It was positive overall and he is ahead in his maths :j, but he gets bored very easily in literacy apparently and doesn't apply himself properly. I've told him that we are going to do extra work on his reading and writing every day after school. As you can imagine, he was thrilled at the idea!!

Make it a game not a chore because that will only put him off more. Find a subject he's interested in, Dinosaurs, cars anything he might want to know more about and go from there. Make going to the library a pleasure (ours have computers and I know he probably has/can use one at home but it's oh so much more fun using somebody elses) 'Lets go and choose some books on.... and then we will go for a drink... some sweets etc whatever is a small reward.Let him choose what he wants to read and give him the work as a mini project for which he will get a reward from you if and when he's done it to an acceptable standard. Get him a scrap book and some glue let him read newspapers, magazines and then cut out things of interest to do with his subject and put them in the scrap book.Let him do his own pictures but tell him he has to write a little underneath to explain just what it is and what's going on in the picture. Take him to any exhibitions that are suitable that are linked to his subject. Get him to critique his childrens' DVDs and give you a 'Film night' type review.
Sadly the national curriculum has ousted a whole host of subjects from learning, things that he might have been interested in but hasn't the opportunity to explore. History is a no no and that's our heritage with loads of events and people that we should know more about that's been thrown away. Maybe he will like to learn some of that. The Horrible History series of books are great for kids.
There's a shop chain that is country wide, THE WORKS maybe you have one near you, they sell cheap books on most subjects and also sell basic teaching programmes English for 6,7,8,9 year olds upwards as well as a maths and science series.(Any cheap end of run book outlet will do the same)
I had a teacher who said that it didn't matter what you read be it cartoons in newspapers, comics and magazines or Shakespeare they all used English and words. They all had general English format and structure (nouns, adverbs, verbs, pronouns, adjectives etc.) and you learned subconciously. We never had an English subject book to be taught from. We never had to turn to page whatever....with him. He taught us from life. He was a great teacher, one of those that you always will remember and he got us all through our exams back when they counted for something.
I suppose what I want to say is 'MAKE IT FUN'. That way he'll learn and not resent the learning.0 -

Morning PLMBL
Hope you are feeling a little better today. I am also full of a cough and cold so can sympathise.
Have caught up with your diary and your hiccup with your DH. I am not much help but I do know that my DH has moody periods where me and the children can't to right from wrong. I am convinced men have a form of PMT sometimes as it happens about once a month.
It seems like he realises now that he sometimes takes his bad temper out on you and the children. I think sometimes we feel we don't need to sugar coat our mood for the people we live with, but its no excuse and just a bad habit. fingers crossed with your code words etc you can get him to break the habit.
Nearly the weekend, keep smiling xxxx0 -
There are some rotten dirty germs about.
I have felt unwell for a fortnight now. Still producing copious amounts of snot.
I blame the tories. xTrying to shift that debt!0 -
Lainey is right, though I'd go further and suggest this could also be both a lovely Dad-Son bonding time, plus an excellent exercise for DH to get those neurons snapping!0
