Having worked in LP, since the change to Chip and Pin fraudsters have moved to the cheque book to scam money, FACT, i have seen the reports showing one chain of store losing £100,000 a month due to bad cheques!! if this was your business you would not put up with it, the amount of bad cheques far outweighed the good cheques!! stop moaning!!0

Rumour has it, that some currency is forged as well, does this mean that the big companies will not accept cash any longer?
All of this not accepting cheques is down to commercial greed by the big companies, it takes a few days for a cheque to clear, debit and credit card payment is immediate.
The big companies have obviously formed a cartel to stop their customers using cheques, I hope the smaller companies may benefit.0 -
Cheques in retail stores should be banned. They slow the queue down whilst the person fumbles around for their cheque book, the guarantee card has to be checked. It's a pain all round.

I've worked on tills for years and would like to argue that processing a cheque actually takes no longer than someone whose forgotten their pin, or put in the wrong pin, wrong card, deliberately tried to use a spouses card, put the card in the wrong way, taken the card out too soon  means you have to start all over again!!!
I live out of my cheque book. Not because I'm trying to be awkward, or because I have insufficient funds on that day to pay my bill. It's because I never make accouting mistakes using this method. Whereby, I always miss something when using chip'n'pin. For me it's a better money saving tool and am gutted now lots of places are refusing this method of payment.New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0 -
A lot of people here are talking rubbish, I have been held up more by people with cards than cheques! People forget pin, and so have to pull out another card, which is often declined as its not their main card, or they dont have enough cash on one card, so have to use another or they cant find one card, and spend minutes looking for it.0

my nearest paypoint which is in a coop store now refuses chip and pin and cheques because of 'fraudelent transactions' so now its back to good old cash only0

Cash is best anyway, if you havent got the cash, you cant spend it, simple as.
I hardly ever use my card (electron) apart from online purchases.
And I think my chequebook is the same one I got when I opened the account (sometime in the 80's) it even has 19__ on the date bit.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Coppers are only legal tender up to twenty pence. The store should tell her to shove off!0 -
Well i went into Asda on Sunday and pilled my £100 of goods up, had them all scanned then only to find they dont accept cheques anymore!
Im totally disgusted they dont/wont accept them anymore!! As for it taking longer to process a cheque it would have definately taken them alot longer to void that lot off and put it all bk on the shelves!
At the end of the day chip n pin doesnt seem to be safe, drawing out cash from a cash point deffo isnt safe, and there can be fraud with cheques too!! Would be great to go back to being paid cash, and just handing it over, then when its gone its gone and theres no paying out bank charges for going overdrawn!0
