I use cheques to pay: School Dinner Tickets(the school only takes them or cash and my kids seem to loose cash),Rainbow Fees, Brownie Fees, People on ebay that don't have Paypal, Avon, Piano Lessons and the window cleaner, I have switch of course, but these people won't accept this.0

I know a lot of pensioners who can't / won't learn pin numbers (a lot of them don't believe they are safe) so still use cheques in every shop.
They have said that if the shops refuse cheques (which are still legal tender) then they will refuse to shop there again.See the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -

Just thought it may be of interest to some of you out there...

we had lots of people using cheques in our shop knowing they never had any money in their account.
Its a way of getting stuff today and then worrying about it later.
If you use your switch / debit card that goes with the cheque account and you havent got any money in the account then it wouldnt be authorised so i guess thats why some people like to use chequesIf You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0 -

Cheques with those get honoured by the bank - and presumably if the account has no funds, then that leads to penalty charges, possibly being overdrawn unauthorised etc. . .. .0 -

But that's different. You should use a cheque to pay for these services alongside things such as paying a landlord rent. However, commerically in retail stores, other than slowing down the process at the checkout for the people behind, there is no reason to use cheques.

You're an olde worlde type of person aren't you?
Cheques in retail stores should be banned. They slow the queue down whilst the person fumbles around for their cheque book, the guarantee card has to be checked. It's a pain all round.

I use to work in a shop a few years ago and we stopped taking cheques because of fraud.
It is very difficult to ascertain whether a cheque book and guarantee card has been stolen unlike credit cards.
Again, going back a few years several banks especially the one beginning with B would refuse to cough up if the cheque had been stolen.
I reckon this is probably the real reason why a lot of shops have stopped taking them.Third time lucky on WW I hope :j
