My older cousin wouldn't allow me to be a bridesmaid unless I took out all my piercings (except one in my lobes) and had my hair a 'natural' colour. I declined her invite to be a bridesmaid and turned up with bright pink hair and a black dress (she didn't want anyone to wear black).
OP, I'd tell your husband to go along with his beard if that's what he normally has, get him to have a word with the groom and see what he says? He might not even know the wife has said this!

when I was 16, i was bridesmaid for a friend who inssted we all had the same hair style, as this was the end of the 80s the other 3 bridesmaids had chin length perms, hence 6 months of me looking like I had been crossed with leo sayer with an electrical socket! (oh I forgot the brigh pink bress witha hoop and obligatory orange face / white neck make up line!

Don't suppose you have a large dog do you OP? or can you borrow one?

As long as it's not got a beard it should be welcome :)
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • OP and others - this thread has really made me giggle and realise I wasn't alone. Hubby and I got a wedding invite from his cousins daughter a few years back. Unfortunately I ripped up the invitation in a fit of temper -I now realise I should have kept it to have a laugh at. There were about 6 or so "requests" from the bride but the 3 I remember vividly were:
    • The bride requests that male guests do not wear kilts to the wedding. She finds the sight of hairy knees deeply unattractive and does not wish them to feature in the wedding photographs. Breakfast attire should be worn, or in exceptional cases, a lounge suit.
    • The bride and groom respectfully request that guests arrange to be transported to/from the venue and do not bring their own vehicles. This will allow all guests to have a drink and enjoy themselves without anyone needing to drive home.
    • We do not have a wedding list as our home is fully furnished and required nothing further. We will be honeymooning in Australia therefore sterling or Australian Dollar donations would be appreciated in place of gifts.
I don't remember the exact wording but I do clearly recall the "deeply unattractive" statement. Given that kilts are traditional at Scottish weddings I was speechless. Hubby and I didn't go, nor did we send a gift as we thought they were the rudest individuals ever. My BIL did go though, fully dressed in his kilt outfit and when he came face the face with the bride she said he wouldn't be allowed in photos due to his attire. BIL responded with a smile and said that was quite alright, he'd only come for the meal and was leaving as soon as it was over. He's not normally as smart as that but we were proud of him:D

Reading these posts it seems apalling manners are a bit more common amongst brides and grooms than I would have thought!

Scottishminnie - you have made me smile after a emotionally mixed day. So thank you (and your BIL!!)

As far as the OP is concerned, if I had requested that men were clean shaven at my wedding, I would have been without most of my wedding party...including my husband!

I know that we're all laughing but it really does show the lack of respect towards the guests and the complete lack of manners. It's true that you can't buy class!

OP, ignore her stupid and ignorant demands, if she doesn't want your perfectly normal, if hairy, boyfriend in her wedding photos then it's her choice.

And place a large bet at the bookies for this marriage crashing before 5 years are out, you'll make a fortune! ;)

They're all bad, but this one :eek:. How can they suggest that EVERYONE leaves their car at home and gets rat@rsed? I mean seriously. Surely how people get to and from the wedding is none of their business. OMG, I really can't believe the brass neck on some people.

    Jx

PS: Big up to your BIL. I hope he licked his finger and chalked and imaginary "1" in the air after telling her that!!
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

iit did state the rest of the male dress code tho:

"National dress, No.1 dress, Morning Attire or Lounge Suits."

no idea what 'no 1 dress' is...tux?!

Is any one a member of the Armed Forces?

I only ask as a No 1 dress is usually the way that the formal, ceremonial uniform is referred to in the various Armed Forces as opposed to No 4's which are the bog standard everyday work uniform.

Oh and I agree with the poster who said that men with facial hair tickle parts that non-facial haired men can't reach......

Facial hair - no. National dress - yes.

If that was the dress code, my OH would wear a kilt, in the traditional Scottish fashion, and walk around on his hands....
