I bought Asda own brand once & they just wouldn't go tender despite trying different cooking times. Sainsburys basics peas were even worse, very starchy & unedible. I find Tesco & Sainsburys standard own brands are fine but Birds Eye are probably the best really.Oh & Morrison's own brand are nice too..0

I would be curious to see what the difference between basic and std tier peas.
I have no idea how many types of peas there. unlike fruit & veg like apples or potatoes where their any many types.
Or even if they do not freeze as quickly after picking etc.0 -
My tip for substandard tough peas..make them into pea and mint soup;)
Birds Eye Field Fresh garden peas 900g currently 1.50 at Sainsbos.0 -
I must admit that although I don't eat a lot of peas when I do I prefer the Birds Eye ones although I know they are a bit dearer. As I only have them now and again its a little luxury that is my treat.I love anysort of veg and at my friends tonight for dinner we had spanish chicken, jacket spud, sweetcorn, some cauliflower and some string beans Her OH is away in Europe and isn't very fond of veg but she loves it and knows I will eat anything put in front of me
:) We are both WW2 babbies, brought up with rationing so have cast iron tummys when it comes to eating
:) We were talikng this afternoon about different veg that some kids never get given anymore, I love spring greens yet its not often avaiable unless you find an old-fashioned farm shop.Luckily I live in deepest kent so I can get almost any veg I fancy from our farm shop locally. But for quickness Birds Eyes peas can't be beaten
We always had/have spring greens and now my daughter does, and I'm only in my 20sThey are very cheap when in season (especially from the farm shop - I'm in Buckinghamshire - but available in supermarkets too)
I think maybe the difference is they only seem to be around when in season whereas lots of other fruit/veg seems to be around all year round - even if it is super expensive and not at all tasty out of season!
We get Mr. Ts frozen petits pois, but will be trying LIDL as several people have mentioned them on here.
As kids, we always used to have petits pois from a can (I think the actual brand that packaged/sold them was french too) and they would be super soft and a kind of dull grey-green...doesn't sound appetizing but I remember them to be fantastic and I haven't been able to find anything similar in the last few years0
