FROZEN PEAS- which make do you buy!

Hi, i eat a lot of frozen peas,i like them! i usually buy birds eye, i tried asda's once but found them tough and horrible and have not had the courage to try other cheaper brands.
they are only a couple of branded things i still buy and would like to try a cheaper but equally good alternative
i have all major supermarkets by me and lidl and aldi a little away from me.
thank you:D

  • I have started using Aldi peas (in a green bag). I think they take a little longer to cook than birds eye but my son who eats peas till they come out of his ears loves them. HTH;)

I buy the Tesco petit pois ones now, they are £1.50 for a 1kg bag, but they are nice. I've tried all the supermarkets value/basics ones and I just don't like them, even when I am cooking them in something like a risotto etc I can still taste that I don't like them!

I but Mr T's own petit pois. Garden peas are usually massive, I prefer the smaller ones. £1.50 for massive bag :)

I've tried lots of different brands of frozen peas - you wouldn't think they'd vary much, would you?:(
I 've given up now, and always buy Bird's Eye Garden peas - I love them!

I only eat them as a stand-by towards the end of the week or with mash (YUM!). Lidl at about a £ for a kg are fine by me.

I must admit that although I don't eat a lot of peas when I do I prefer the Birds Eye ones although I know they are a bit dearer. As I only have them now and again its a little luxury that is my treat.I love anysort of veg and at my friends tonight for dinner we had spanish chicken, jacket spud, sweetcorn, some cauliflower and some string beans Her OH is away in Europe and isn't very fond of veg but she loves it and knows I will eat anything put in front of me :):) We are both WW2 babbies, brought up with rationing so have cast iron tummys when it comes to eating :):) We were talikng this afternoon about different veg that some kids never get given anymore, I love spring greens yet its not often avaiable unless you find an old-fashioned farm shop.Luckily I live in deepest kent so I can get almost any veg I fancy from our farm shop locally. But for quickness Birds Eyes peas can't be beaten

I like Birds Eye frozen peas:

The smallest and sweetest peas, picked and frozen within 2.5 hours to retain more vitamins

I think it's amazing that the crop is in a field one minute and then it's harvested/processed/frozen and bagged within 2.5 hours.

It used to be featured on the local Look North news every year. The quality inspectors would monitor the crop in the fields. When the harvesting began, the trucks would be quickly loaded and drive to the Birds Eye factory in Hull to meet the time deadline.

It's not happening in Hull anymore, they moved production to the Grimsby Bird's Eye factory.

I usually buy Tesco's own make. I can't tell the difference in taste tbh to Birdseye ones. I always microwave them as opposed to boil them and they taste fine. I've just discovered mixing them with a garlic & tomato sauce. My new favourite pasta sauce x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
