Our previous postman looked as though he was always on the verge of a nervous breakdown and was often rude, despite my valiant attempts to get him to smile. He's since disappeared and now I've told the current postman where to leave parcels safely we rarely have a problem.

It's how people perceive their job, we had a Parcelforce driver who moaned every time he had to pick parcels up, whatever the shape or weight it was too big, too small, too heavy, too many, not enough, etc. He was off for a couple of weeks and there was a temp on, who didn't work for Parcelforce but was a professional driver, he told me that for the money and the work it was the easiest job he'd ever had and he did the work better than the other guy, without any complaints.

I can't say I'd be a good postman but if you're doing the job make the most of it, if you're miserable in your work it must make the days even longer.

We have a postman that delivers at around 10.30am then a post van that comes around 2.30pm. What I don't understand is why the postman brings some parcels and then the van calls too.

in ye olde days. drivers checked the foot posties packets for 'doublers'
however it simply a case of not enough time with increases in duty sizes and increased packet traffic.
a driver will cover at least 6-8 foot duties plus his own firms, early calls etc
this is 'answered' by removing the van duty, combining 2 foot duties and the van duty into one.
so you have park & loop
however you get people now complaining about late deliveries ;)
you also have this compounded by P&L duties being 'designed' with completely unrealistic duty spans
  • As a postman I'm more than happy to leave parcels if customers have a "safe" place. If you are expecting a lot of parcels get a plastic box for us to put them in. If not I put a card through the door and they have to collect them from the Delivery Office.

I also ring the doorbell and knock the door, why, because the common problem is "the doorbell doesn't work it needs some batteries." One customer complained I didn't ring the doorbell/knock the door, I said to my manager to politely tell the customer to turn the music down, school holidays!!!!

Poet123. Not all parcels fit into the bag.

Marje. Strictly speaking we're not allowed to "doorstep" parcels now. However when I have I've had no complaints. A lot of people don't want to make the journey to the Delivery Office.

As Custardy says wait for the revision!! ;)

It's more the size. But as custardly said, once the revisions are in place, all will go out with the postie, 2 in a van. Computer says yes, weary posties say no.

    Doorstepping = No
Leaving in a safeplace = No (unless written confirmation at delivery office)
Signing for Recorded Items = No

I've been medically retired for a year now. Any excuse they can to get rid of a full time member of staff they will take it.

What I see here, is some people praising their postie for doorstepping and leaving in safe place. Other's complaining about it.

You can please some of the people some of the time eh?

Please don't complain when your postie starts doing his job properly. If that means a trip to delivery office or arranging a redelivery, I'm afraid it would be that or him losing his job.

To the OP. Contact RM on twitter. I've found that was the best way of getting problems addressed. It's fed down to DO level and they must respond.

My post is useless, Rarely get missed delivery cards, We have to try and make sure we know what days items will be arriving.

There was one exception, When they were on strike our deliveries were actually better. Came early in the morning and always got a card when they failed to deliver.

Yes there is but if it fits in the bag I'll carry it. It saves time anyway the bag is getting lighter because we are taking items out. Some of the smaller packets can be the heaviest the most common being fishing weights.

You'll be surprised what will fit through a letter box.
