Does anyone else have a problem with their postman and parcels?

  • I'm another who is fortunate to have a great regular postman, and larger parcels delivery man. If I'm out, parcels are left in the recycle bin and larger items are put over the locked side gate and a note is always put through the letter box telling me where the parcel has been left.

Oh yes, postman also helped me sort out my rear windscreen wiper when some less than kind person had removed the blade and snapped the arm! He knows if he's thirsty he can ask for a drink and if he's ever desperate he can use the bathroom:)

Local post office staff cannot be faulted either, always unfailingly polite and patient. I sent 6 parcels (not ebay) the other day and asked if they would weigh three of them so that I could purchase stamps for stamps for onward posting, needed to include in the document enclosed envelope before attaching same, then have them weighed for posting. Battery had failed in my scales.

All 6 parcels sent first class and all arrived next day.

I appreciate not everyone has such good service.

I have a few days a month with no post, RM have actually confirmed to local press that some parts of some routes are not covered daily although they try to vary it.

On other days I get lots of post. It is not unusual to have a van arrive at 8am with a bulky oarcel, a regular postman at 1 pm and a car arrive at 4pm with lighter packages (no letters by car) . The only thing I ever sign for is special delivery everything else including Recorded is just handed over or posted through the porch door.

I don't have a regular postie and I'm having to complain to RM (again) because I keep getting left sorry you were out cards despite the fact I've been home all day and no one rings my buzzer.
Have one guy who gets let into my block of flats and leaves post outside peoples doors and another that signs for recorded delivery items and leaves them hanging out the post box. I also regularly get post for someone in the next road over.

I always feel bad when I go on a shopping spree and my postman turns up ladled with parcels, but he is always in a good mood about it.

Why feel bad you are keeping him in work !

Our postie was very kind about leaving parcels in our shed or paper bin if we weren't in. However, he knocked on the door just before Christmas to tell me that he could be sacked if he carried on doing this. He was quite sad about it. We now have to drive to a delivery office and stand in long queues to get our parcels.

A previous postie used to open our door and put parcels in - I didn't like that very much.

To be fair I don't actually mind the postman leaving items on the step if we are out (we are so far back from the road it isn't a problem) but if we are in, and it is raining, and the packet is just brown paper, why would you not ring the bell? It just seems that he doesn't like the trek up the steps...In the week when we are at work I am quite happy for him to leave the parcels with the neighbours, and I suspect he prefers it too, and that is the problem.

After noticing what can happen to addresses written in waterproof ink even on the way to and from the van/post office bag during a wet spell, I started using Sharpie pens to address my jiffy-bags. It may be a factor in how many INRs someone seems to attract, as if the address gets obliterated early on in the postal process it will be well nigh impossible to deliver an item at all.

Our postie is really good. On a couple of occasions where I've had an item that won't fit through the letter box, he's kept the parcel back for a day and delivered it the next day when I've been in (he know what days I work). To save me a trip to the delivery office.

When I order something online I try and time it so turns up when I'm going to be in (I only work 2 days a week), although If I'm expecting a parcel I leave the porch door open, the postie and van postie are very good and they leave any parcels in the porch behind the panel and not the other side of glass where people can see them when they walk passed.

My neighbour 3 doors down is quite happy to take parcels in if needed.

    the problem is
all these little 'favours' are people risking their jobs
delaying a parcel, leaving parcels in unofficial safeplaces etc are all risky procedures
RM will happily get rid of staff when they can, especially full time staff.
