Does anyone else have a problem with their postman and parcels?

Mine are usually left in our recycling bin which is by the front door. On the one hand I don't like parcels being left like that, but on the other hand it's easier than having to drive to the post office the next day, especially as we have to leave work early to get there before it closes.
Beats me why they don't shift the postal working day forward so that they deliver things between 4pm-9pm for example.0 -

My post quite often arrives after 4 pm.
And I'm very lucky that all my postmen are lovely. My regular one gave me his mobile number so that if he's put a card thru my door for a parcel (rare as he usually leaves them in my shed for me), and I come back home shortly afterwards, I can ring him and he'll pop back with it if he's still close by.
Couldn't be nicer or more helpful really - lovely chaps one and all.0 -

is everyone home then?0 -
My postman leaves my parcels either outside for everyone passing to help themselves, or with people whoever is home in the closest house, one day this was 10 doors away with a family I had never even seen before. I have complained and was told that the post was only to be left if I had set up a safe place, I explained I work next door to the sorting office so was more than happy to have my parcels taken back there and so did not need a safe place, it has made no difference postie still leaves things wherever he feels like.:mad:0

Why not put a poster on your door like

Reading these comments makes me feel rather lucky to have our postie. We even get a Christmas card from him and when one of us is out the front, the parcelforce chap honks and waves from his van. Mind you, the neighbours take parcels in for each other, so we probably make things easier for them.
As a kid, I remember the local postie used to post a bag of sweets through the letter box when it was one of our birthdays ... nowadays probably forbidden on 'elf & safety grounds!"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

Our house is isolated enough that items get left on the stoop or on the porch and there is never a problem. I have never had to go to Hook to get anything, which would be a f*g as it would be about a £15 round trip and probably take several hours, as I don't drive.
Mind you, I have largely been at home for the last few years anyway (for personal reasons) so am always the family's go-to person to be in for a delivery. It's great as a research student as thanks to the internet things can still be done a lot from home, but it may annoy/affect me more if I was working full-time away from home."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

To be fair I don't actually mind the postman leaving items on the step if we are out (we are so far back from the road it isn't a problem) but if we are in, and it is raining, and the packet is just brown paper, why would you not ring the bell? It just seems that he doesn't like the trek up the steps...In the week when we are at work I am quite happy for him to leave the parcels with the neighbours, and I suspect he prefers it too, and that is the problem.0

Have to say my regular postie is lovely and often rings the bell to hand post over, even if it would go through the slot or doesn't need signing for. He's also stopped me in the street as I was coming home to hand over a signed for parcel that he couldn't leave. We have another who's lazy and just chucks it all in the porch!
Sounds like you might unfortunately have the latter version, although I guess all posties are on time constraints. Don't know if it's worth ringing his delivery office and having a quiet word with the supervisor about it?0 -
mines great , but the stand in is too bone idle to ring the bell and leaves stuff out on the step
hard choice i guess if you complain you will suddenly get more broken goods0
