Don't get me started on the washing basket!!! My OH doesn't dump his clothes on the floor, oh no, he dumps them on top of the washing basket! It's obviously too difficult for a grown man to lift the lid and put dirty clothes inside the basket so he just puts them on top of the lid!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::T OMG hilarious this is my DH too, I thought it was just mine that did this I am so relieved to find out it's not. Just read Anguk's post to him and he got so defensive thinking I had written it LOL oh the look on his face was a picture :D

Love this thread and love knowing that I am not alone. My DH is a combination of everyone else's - he does ALL the things mentioned - towels on bed, spend money trying to be nice etc.

DS1 and DS2 are both men in training - both leave towels on the beds or on the floor and the washing on top of the basket.

Most recent 'let's spend money to be nice' incident
DS2 is away for a few days and DH says "shall we have a chinese takeaway so you don't have to cook tonight" (how thoughtful). Me - "we can't afford it, and anyway, chinese is DS2's favourite takeaway and I'd feel horrible having that whilst he's away". DH agrees and I cook. 4 days later, DS2 is due to return home. DH says "shall we have a chinese tonight? It'll be a nice coming home treat for DS2" (who, btw, has been having a fab time away). Me - "we still can't afford it". DH - "Well, I just thought it would be a nice treat for DS2. Why don't you (me) look at the menu and we won't spend more than £20". Me - "I'm trying to spend less than £40 on the shopping this week and you want to spend half of that on one meal". DH - "We have that money from 'wherever' - we could use some of that". We had the chinese. I ordered, I collected, I paid and so he thinks I agreed with it all. AND, to top it all - DS2 ate chicken balls in S&S sauce and nothing else. Aaaarrrgghhhhh

I have a lovely laundry bin. It's 3 feet tall with a moulded plastic lid that flips over if you put anything on it, thus tipping laundry into the depths of the bin. The lid then rights itself.

Unfortunately, if a kitten walks onto the seemingly solid surface of the bin... :D:D:D

I was going to suggest a sleepover ! Cheap, and my 11 year old daughter loves having her friends round. Today i've dropped 4 of her friends off at her dads for a sleepover (she's already there) I'm not stupid, there is a huge bonus to being divorced !

My 25 year old son doesnt have a wardrobe, he has a floordrobe. Says clothes get too stressed when they're hung up and that they need to lie down.

    I like your son's style. :D

One of my friends has a lovely spacious 2 bedroom flat. Nice lad, good brains, his degree is in how to build a nuclear power station. Lol.

Anyhow, his wardrobe is on what is ostensibly the guest bed. I must confess it's very efficient. Every week, he washes stuff, dries it, dumps it on the bed, and it's all there, easily accessible for during the week!

This thread is hilarious!! Anguk, my OH is exactly the same! I had to run him through the process of lifting the lid off the basket placing the clothes inside and putting the lid back on, the other day.

Just read this out and my DS (18) said "just buy one without a lid, surely that's the simple solution".

    I've put him right ;)

When Mr W returns from his ten days working on site, I need to go down to his van then schlep the bag of clothes to house and washing machine. And I have to do it immediately, as they'll have been a couple of wet towels festering in there during the ten hour drive.

Needless to say, he returns to work with the same (freshly washed) set of bedding, towels and clothes every time. I make sure of that.

Whaaaaat? He needs to schlep his own bag Mrs W.

My OH is a manual worker (very dirty work clothes). My previous OH was an office worker (suit, !!!!, tie etc.).

When current OH moved in he went to work Monday to Friday, left his clothes in heap, came to find his "clean work clothes" the following Monday and I pointed him in the direction of the heap.

I said, and still say, if it's not in the laundry, how do I know it needs washing? DS has learned. He knows how to use the washer, knows if he wants it washing it needs to go in the laundry and has washed his own stuff knowing he's going to need it. Recently, he put his own stuff in, realised there wasn't a full wash, and went upstairs to the basket to get some other stuff to fill the washer, so as to not waste electricity.

    That was a proud moment.
