  • No hun, you wanted to do something different for you. He either won't remember or will love an extra day out at the park with you.

I really am not doing it for me at all.

We are taking him to the free museum near us, they have a small aquarium and dinosaur exhibitions. Have managed to get my relative to meet us to lend some money over the weekend.

    Thanks for your replies.
  • That sounds like a lovely day out! I'm sure you'll have a great time :)

If you're not doing it for yourself, then don't spend any more at all! Every day is the same as another as far as your baby is concerned so he won't know the difference. You could probably make much better use of the money elsewhere.
  • Kids love dinosaurs :) well I really do hope you have a lovely day :)

He is our first child so obviously we want to do everything we can for him, no so much that we'd end up in debt though.

It will just be a real let down to myself and my husband who want to make a big deal of the day, surely people understand this?

According to their website, if i lend £50 the fees and interest are £14.81 so i will have to pay back £64.81.

    Is that bad?

Sorry... I didn't read to the end of the thread, but...

You say that he's your first child and you want to "do everything you can for him"... In which case, surely it's better to spend £50 on him at a cost of £50 to yourselves. Otherwise you'll have to spend £50 on him at a cost of £64.81, making you £14.81 poorer, and giving you £14.81 less to spend on him than in future.

Wouldn't it be better to maximise your spending power so that you can give him the best your money can buy... rather than giving him 70% of what your money can buy and handing over 30% to a loans company...?

Have a great day and don't forget to start putting just £1 a week away now so you will have no worries for his 2nd birthday.

He may not understand but the fact is its his birthday!

Who doesn't celebrate their child's 1st birthday? its a big thing!

For you maybe, but he neither knows nor cares.

Do you REALLY want to take out a payday loan for this?
The money isn't just for a card, as i said i want to take him somewhere on his birthday. We never go anywhere due to only having one income between 2 adults and a child, so i thought it would be nice.

Seriously, he doesn't know and he doesn't care.

You are only doing this to appease yourself.

Take him somewhere nice when you can afford it, but don't get into debt.

It's free to take him to the park and feed the ducks!

(I typoed that as feed the dykes, but you probably wouldn't find them at the local park!)
