I don't think SHE appreciated it much at all, still, I liked it :beer:It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
OP, I doubt you'll listen to me any more than you've listed to anyone else.
I'm going to slightly disagree with the consensus here.
If I had the choice of spening £50 on a child's first birthday a couple of weeks late or spening £65 for the same stuff on their actual birthday, I'd choose the latter. I know that goes against the grain to many on here, and it does for me too, but I actually think it is worth it.
Not because it will affect the child in any way, but it will affect others old enough to know the difference.
BUT!!!!!
That's only if I could afford to spend £65 on his birthday. If everything goes to plan then it sounds like you can afford it. But what if something goes wrong with the plan.
You seem to think that you can afford it. Maybe you're not the best person to ask.
Here's my answer...
Can you borrow the money from a friend / family? I don't know your circumstances, but I doubt that between the two of you you don't know anyone who can spare £50 for a week or two.
If someone will lend you the money and you believe you can repay it then go for it.
If no-one will lend you the money then have a really good think about why not. I would suspect that it is because they're not convinced that they'd get the money back. If they're not convinced that you can pay it back, you need to think whether you are convinced that you can pay it back.
Enough people have talked about the problems with not repaying a payday loan on time. I presume that you understand this but don't think it will happen to you.
Every person you know who refuses to lend you £50 thinks that it might happen to you.
Up to you.
Whatever you decide, enjoy your child's birthday.0 -
OP i wasn't against you celebrating your kids 1st birthday but more the fact you hadnt got a card etc for next week when you could postpone it for the following week.0

That's not even an option. The OP's options are:
a) Borrow £50 from a pay day lender to spend on her child's birthday on the day
b) Wait, hang onto the interest the pay day loan will generate and spend it all (circa £65) a week after the child's birthday.
Not sure of the point you are trying to make here.0 -
I'll tell you what you could do and that is make some money out of this deal...
Right you want £50 that's up to you..
Get onto Quidco....join that if you haven't already.
Now click through and find Finance then Loans.
You will find lots of companies that will give you cashback for using them through Quidco. Pick one and take out the loan. Pay the loan back on time and wait for Quidco to send you some money. Wonga is paying £15 so your £50 will end up being free. Paydayuk is offering £50.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Also another thing, I have celebrated my own birthday at a later date before in the past as I had things such as exams, recovering from an operation the day before etc.
I bet other people have celebrated their birthday properly a few days later because of similar situations.0 -
Basically i have asked a relative to borrow money but they are ill and cant give it to me until they come on the day of our sons birthday and that will be later on in the day as well.
This would be ok but i had a little party planned, just a small one with nibbles etc but i cant get any food for this unless i have this money first, so i wouldnt even be able to do something small for him like that.
Also we dont drive so free days out to places are not free for us, we have to pay to get there and again havent got any money for this.
Im not wanting a big extravagant day, i just want something nice to mark the occasion.
He is only getting 3 cheap presents as i knew we wouldnt have that much to spend so its not like ive gone over the top on that.
I have applied for the £50 loan but it has been referred so god knows if or when i will get it anyway now.0 -
So despite £50 being enough to completely throw out your budget, you are willing to spend a third of that amount on a loan which would be unnecessary if you were to defer your spending by a few days, which would have affected the outcome not a jot?
Personally I would have got more pleasure out of spending the interest on myself of my children, but each to their own.0
