Puppy left at home all day.... :(

BitterAndTwisted wrote: »No you didn't. The poster was being sarcastic. Very, very sarcastic indeed. If none of us knew that dogs are pack animals which desperately need to be with their own kind or their human people at all times, we all know it now.
In my opinion anyone who leaves a dog alone all day wants shooting for being so ignorant of their animal's needs and cruelly neglectful. And their dog taken away from them and given to someone more responsible who understand how to care for them properly. No exceptions.
I'm fully aware of the sarcasm aspect, TYVM. The inference was there that I was suggesting dogs are not social animals. Sarcastic tone or not.
Some of the OTT ridiculous responses on here have left my head spinning. Casually throwing around words such as cruel and neglectful. In my line of work I see TRUE cases of neglect and cruelty. Believe me you do not want to see the true definiton of these words IRL.0 -
The OP asked for advice, so I am going to try to not be judgemental.
Aside from the lack of socialisation and possible behavioural problems that may come with it, do you think the dog could 'hold itself' for nine hours? Don't think I could! Little dogs have little bladders so need to go more often.
This may sound awful, but unless there is some way of having the puppy in 'doggy day care' (don't know whereabouts you live, but there are places out there such as Mypetstop that do this, and also individuals who will look after them through the day), then it would be the kindest thing for both of you to give the dog up and maybe have a rethink when your other commitments give you the extra time needed. You could then also consider rehoming a slightly older dog too.0 -

Wow. The OP is seriously deluded. Most of us failed to agree with her theory that a fully grown cat is adequate company for a baby Chi for nine hours a day.
Her mates at work are giving her the advice she WANTS to hear, so she's given up on all of us. We're so dumb.
That poor puppy is going to have soooo many problems in six months. It will be toileting everywhere, barking continuously, destructive and snappy. She won't want it when it gets like that.
Watch out for the Ad:
"9 month old Chi puppy, seeks new home due to UNFORSEEN circumstances, no fault of her own etc, blah, blah, blah.
£600 please to ENSURE a good home..."
Of course she won't mention that the pup is not toilet trained or point out any of its behavioural problems that she has caused.
Let the new owners find that out for themselves eh? Fast forward another 6 months and that poor pup will be lucky not to be up for sale again.
The original breeder could have prevented all that by ensureing the dog was carefully placed. But the £1200 price tag probably blinded everyones reasoning...

Exactly...going by the way she threw her toys out of the pram with us, her workmates are probably all aware of her tantrums and are just agreeing with her for an easy life.
Good of her to take a whole 2 days off work though to settle him in eh?
She knows she is being crule - she has said it herself. No dount though the little pup will get a new outfit and a blingy collar to make up for 'Mummy's' guilt.
Hopefully one of her work mates that has agreed with her is silently thinking the same as us i.e she is being cruel and will phone the RSPCA on the quiet.
OP - rather than taking advice from a load of strangers or your workmates, why don't you phone a vet and also the RSPCA and ask their advice? You know, since you love your puppy so and you are convinced you are in the right - you have nothing to lose surely and then lets be hones, you can smugly come back here and put us all in our place?;)0 -
Are we a nasty cruel bunch who are attacking the op?
No we are not. We are just a group of animal lovers who know that cuddles and love are just not enough.
Lets get positive. We don't know which part of the country the OP is in; we have come over as harsh while trying to give sound advice, but I think plenty of us would help her and the pup if we could.
I'm in the North East and I'm willing to dog walk/sit if the OP is anywhere near me.
Who else can help?My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Hi op I think put some cards up in shope windows in your town asking if anyone wants to dog sit for a couple of hours for you. there must be people like me who would love to help out. We can't have a dog as 1. we work too may hours and 2. we rent and can't have animals.
But I would love a dog and would happily give up my lunch break to go and play/train & offer socialisation with a puppy/dog and then would go and take it for a walk and make a fuss of it after work.
Good luck

Not quite a simple as that I'm afraid. Not going to waste any more time arguing here. You truly can't argue with stupid..
Good luck with the pup OP. With the time that you DO have, combined with patience and dedication you can make this work.0
