I can't remember what was said but wasn't it that the issue only occurs when the petrol price is xx0.9, ie, they can't handle a price of 0.9 of a penny. Therefore it'll be a fairly rare event. It certainly never happend to me and I use Sainsbury's on a fairly regular basis.

The weird thing is though that this has only started in the last year or two. Before that they still sold petrol with a .9 price and the pumps managed perfectly well with it.

L:ast nights watchdog saw a statement from Sainsburys admitting they round it up to the next penny as the pumps can't handle the .9. Well they could before so whats changed? The pump manages to stop on £10.00 so why do they have to force it to add on the extra 1p?

This still stinks if you ask me. I also thought it was illegal to charge more than the advertised price? - IE if you stop at £10.00 are they legally allowed to clock up an extra penny?

I always pay for my petrol by credit card to get my cashback.
As do I. As these generally work on round numbers then the pump changing from £19.99 to £20.01 (or whatever) works in our favour.

But they arent adding a penny on, that pennys worth has gone through the meter and you are getting what you pay for.

I really dont see what the big deal is, I could understand if you werent getting that pennys worth of fuel (it wont get you far by the way ;))

It was typical NON story as most things on watchdog are

Yes they are. Sainsburys admitted they are rounding up and putting 1p on. They never used to do this did they.

The point is, if you want £10 worth, why should you b forced to carry small change with you?

My local Teco has this feature, each pump has set of buttons that allow a set amount (either cost or litres) to be set. Pump stops automatically when reached.
Same as my local Tesco. I swear that some of them pumps can smell a penny in my pocket.

I have been known to lift the hose up to drain all the fuel into my tank, so I get the last customers but the next customer doesn't get mine. :p

(apologies to anyone that's ever followed me at a pump)
Yes, but if the trigger is "Off", no fuel will run out!

Try telling that to the bit that splashed on my shoes recently when I picked the trigger up :(

That was the bit that was in the "Nozzle" that the person before you had not waited long enough to drain into their tank, not what was in the pipe.
