Not sure if you can improve this (anyway, maybe vBulletin people can).

When you search for something, but there are no matches, the following message is displayed.
    ____________________________
    vBulletin Message
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : xxx, zzz

It's very likely that you want to search again or perhaps you to correct typos. So why not show the search box again with the message? It'd improve the usability of the search tool.

Or just make the search work!

Try searching for words such as "Tesco" or "Vinegar" (words that definitely have posts about!) and you always get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

It is soooo annoying when you know posts are there but can't easily access them through the search.
  • The search is on the techies' to-do list, it just keeps getting overtaken by other things :)

PS. At the moment it's case-sensitive

Not sure exactly where to put information like this.
I thought there used to be a specific forum for site problems and the posting of error messages.

Tried a search a few minutes ago and it didn't work.

I am not very successful with the search facility either. The amount of things i have tried to search for in the OldStyle board is numerous. I know there posts are there, but it doesnt pick them up. (Ive even tried using the old board - which isnt successful either half the time).

Is anyone else finding problems with the search facility on this site?

I input a single word (eg combi for combi boilers) and it comes up with no results.

I have tried various times with other words - even Argos comes up with not found! (search type being forums) using either of the search facilities.

There is something wrong from around 07/04/2005 6:30 PM bst. The rest of the web works fine for and I was tempted to comment on the professional transformation of the MSE site. I welcome the increased sophistication that all user can benefit from.
This miinor glitch will surely be overcome by the dedicated profesionals at MSE, I am sure.
