Today I used the search and noticed a consistent pattern with the other times I've used it - it doesn't come up with anything!
I don't use it frequently so I can't remember what I've searched for before but today it was 'payment protection' which is something I thought Martin would have held forth on at some time or other. As usual - no results!
Why?

i am not too familiar with the search system dropdown - not done by myself. however, i fixed the search when going through the chat forums. if you leave the dropdown to 'please choose a search' as opposed to selecting 'site search', 'payment protection' yeilds quite a lot of results.
if you set 'site search' it does not. not sure why but i will look into it next week0 -
I tried searching fro DVD+RW - as the type of dvd media I was looking for and it told me that they were too common for me to look under. I have had to manually scroll through the numerous pages in the techie board to find something on it. What could I do to search better???0

I think the + is confusing it. The search thinks you want to search for words "dvd" AND "RW" two seperate words which are both under the 4-letter minumim word length limit.
try this:
go to advanced search
type in dvd* (the * wildcard searches means it will search for all words that start with dvd - and it gets round the 4 letter minimum search rule
click show results as posts
you can also select "Techie forum" from the search in forums column if you want.0 -
I too cannot get the search function to work. It always says no matches. Very strange for such a top site0

I have recently switched to Firefox as my main brower. However, I cannot get the MSE search facility to work unless I switch back to IE. Am I missing a trick?0

Seems to work here. What sort of error message are you getting?0
-
Message simply says "This search returned no results". I get this whatever I search for but not problems with IE0
-
Strange, just tried it again and it worked. Have you tried an advanced search?0

I just tried and got the same results as you.
Other people not on Firefox have been reporting problems with the search as well.
MSE Dimitar said he'd be looking at the search next week so hopefully any bugs will fixed then0 -
Looks like wait and see. DVB, how to I do an advanced search?0
