It's the main site search at the top that I can't get to work,

the advanced search is part of the forum from the search drop box you can see just above this thread.

There isn't an advanced search for the main site.

I have notices that if I use 'Search' it is not case sensitive. But if you use Advanced Search you must use lower case - even to match upper case. If you use upper case it matches nothing - not even upper case - at least that is what happens sometimes - just not all the time!

The search on the forums is strange.

The member search is case sensitive and you can't even access lower-case letters from the a-z along the top of the Member List page.
I've searched for a name before and it came back with no results then tried the exact same thing seconds later and it found it.

Search has been strange since day 1 of the new software yet vBulletin doesn't seem to come set that way - and I don't know if you can even change to case-sensitive in the settings.

I wonder if it's something to do with the way the yabb info was imported? It set the board to be case sensitive to keep the details exactly the same then the setting was left??

ok - quick remedy to search the site goto browser and enter
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?searchxyz where xyz is what u want to search for example if searching for credit i would type
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?searchcredit im not sure why firefox search is breaking at first glance. looks like firefox may not be posting to the script how it likes,

for site builders instead of
<body onload="form.submit();">...
<form name="form" method="post" action="http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?search"&gt;
...
just do a redirect or even if you want to keep the form.submit then change the action line to include the search term as it seems you are adding it dynamically to the form variables below so now itll be viewnews.cgi?searchsearchterm

not sure whether firefox looks to be grumbling because the form value is enclosed in ' ' as oppossed to " " changing this may help!
