Why ... still in this country use the age old Victorian method of changing gears in cars
    Here are three good reasons:
Cars with automatic transmissions are more expensive than the equivalent manual car.
Manual gearboxes are far easier to maintain and are more reliable. So cheaper to own
Manual gearboxes are more efficient and weigh less so better MPG.

As an aside Queen Victoria died in January 1901 and the first model T Ford rolled off the production line in 1908 (no clutch and two forward gears). This makes an interesting read if you want to go deeper.

    Oh dear Lord.

I'm sorry, I perhaps used the wrong word and I can see how it might be taken out of context.

What I meant was someone with say no legs, would not be able to ride a bicycle, not that they wouldn't otherwise find it perfectly ok.

    Fixed that for you.

Another example on here of someone simply not being able to admit they've said something daft.

There is no point in an automatic licence unless you are incapable of learning manual.

What a terrible choice of words.

Disabled people drive automatic cars, not because they are 'incapable of learning' implying they are stupid but simply because they are physically unable to manage three pedals..

5t you're clearly looking for a fight and to troll some threads today. You know full well that thelawnet didn't mean it like that and the fact that you deliberately left out the word 'manual' in your quote only goes to show that you were trying to twist what was being said.

Being incapable of learning to drive a manual is far from being stupid. If you don't have a left leg, you're incapable of learning to drive OR driving a manual. It's a simple fact. Incapable = not capable.

I was incapable of driving a manual for a couple of years - it doesn't mean I was stupid, thick, !!!!!! etc. It was just unfortunate that I had problems with a clutch until an operation changed all that for me and restored my ability to drive a manual. If I had of had this problem when I learnt to drive I also would have been incapable of learning a manual car. Do you think that would make me sound stupid? I don't because it's just factual.

You'd know all about that, taking peoples text, misquoting it and twisting it to use against them.

Steady on their chap! If it's a renault then yes it'll be a chocolate teapot but if you buy any other car then the autoboxes are usually very reliable. Even some renaults have volvo autoboxes in them for sheer indestructibility.

Someone calling themselves thelawnet should realise the implications of what they are saying before they hit submit.

    5t.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe how you would choose the word "disabled" to describe someone! It's not that such people have no ability! In many cases modifications and adjustments can mean that they are perfectly able to do anything a physically typical person can.

You really should use the politically correct term "differently abled" and think about the implications of your offensive remarks before you hit submit... :p

5t you're clearly looking for a fight and to troll some threads today.

    Really?

Then you'll be able to link those won't you?
You know full well that thelawnet didn't mean it like that and the fact that you deliberately left out the word 'manual' in your quote only goes to show that you were trying to twist what was being said.

No idea who rattled your cage, perhaps lawnet isn't capable of actually responding properly.

Do try to tell someone like Tanni-Gray Thompson that she is 'incapable' of anything.

Workign with disabled people I would say there are thigns they are unable to do or might have difficulty with but i would not call someone incapable.

    Dictionary definition for you.
noun 4. a thoroughly incompetent person, especially one of defective mentality.

Hope that clears it up for you and in your own words
    because it's just factual.

Now please demonstrate trolling to me today.

    5t.

edit for eshul - First you aren't as funny as you think you are. Second that is trolling, and third you haven't got a clue what you are talking about so please clear off and let the adults chat. There's a good lad.

havent read the tittle tattle but from my perspective i can define people with an automatic license to a 't'
    disabled
    lazy
or more usually women that cant get their head round changing gear and using a clutch
most of them are usually asian or white middle aged women going through a crisis because their husbands have left them and they need to drive but basically cannot cope multitasking behind the wheel

ive run this past the wife and she assures me i am going to get a lot of slagging for telling the truth as i see it in my business

sorry but if i offer an auto i know my demigraph
