Morning all!!!
I am loving this sunshine so much, will be sorry to see the cold come back and am worrying about my seedlings excessively. They are in the front garden which gets full sun in the morning and I'll pop them in the back which gets full sun pm/evening later. Hopefully I'll have my greenhouse over the weekend which should offer some protection, it's only a plastic one so I hope it's enough. I have been considering a fleece blanket to cover it with if it gets really cold. Is that too much? Ours is a very sheltered garden.
Heather38 - this is my first attempt at Morning glory I'm afraid!! I'm worried now but as the garden is so sheltered and we're in the Thames Valley we get less frost etc at this time of year, I shall have to presevere but may move them indoors again temporarily if things get too cold. It's a full time job this growing seeds!!! Out of interest, how tall does the Morning Glory grow?
Will be doing some more painting this evening as it would be great to make the most of this fine weather and finish it before the cold snap.
Happy Gardening all!!

I love the pics of the gardens and am incredibly jealous! Hubby and I are seriously thinking of trying to move in the next 12 to 18 months or so and one of our main prorities in a BIG garden!
I have been sowing more seeds today and now have some cucumber, early carrot, brocolli, spouts salad leaf and perputual spinach. The rest of my seedlingas are coming along nicely. I have onions, spring onions, sweet corn, peas, leeks, carrots (later variety), parsnips, peppers (from a supermarket pepper!), toms and garlic. I also got 2 kinds of potatoes in over the weekend, one in a tyre, the other in a tub. I was hoping to get the onion sets in the ground this weekend, but don't like the look of the weather forcast, so think I will leave it a week or 2 for warmer weather again.
I also noticed that the money for the composter went out of our account the other day, so we should have that arrive soon I hope. I have also been looking at a wormery, but could imagine my boys setting them free!0 -
PEN PEN..... i stumbled upon this thread this morning...... and yes im being nosey !!!!!!! great garden, would you like to adopt me and my lot... ooohhh fresh eggs ..you are lucky, although i can pop down to the local farm and buy them and its so much cheaper than getting from the shops. im afraid my garden is a bit of a tip at the mo.. at xmas we got our daughter a tramplolene, but its sooo big we are having to re-arrange everything. my garden isnt as big as yours, but its still 120 ft and takes a lot of looking after, oh hates anything to do with gardening + gets bad hay fever so its all up to me. also im absolutly terrified of FROGS !!!! anyway i have been tottering in there all this week and im planning to spend the day in the grden today and ive managed to get oh to help with a bit of digging ( told him if he doesnt help then im not cooking dinner !!!! lol !!! )
please post a picky on our daily thread today as im sure we can all have a chat... see you over there later x x x

HEX2 your garden is gorgeous.
I'm too ashamed to put any pics of my little plot on here!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Thanks for the comments - it is one of the pictures from the estate agents taken last summer, we moved in a few months ago so who knows what it will look like next year....
Today I put my first early potatoes in, and a row of radishes with oneof mummys little helpers. We also re-located two of the compost stores to a dead area at the back of the veg plots and done a lot of shredding/clearing of long term mess. This opens up for use an area that is about six metres square, in full sun, backed by espalier (sp?) apples on the back fence. Perfect place for seating as it is our hottest spot, ok acid soil and fairly moisture retentive. Previously used as the soft fruit garden and compost heaps. I am happily planning away - this area is as big as my entire garden was when I had a new build.
madhouse, we moved mostly for a bigger garden. OH wanted more garden than this, but I think what I have is manageable bearing in mind I have two toddlers and a part time job to work round.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Hex, my boys would be in heaven in your garden! The potential for growing your own must be huge!
We have been back in the garden today. After one of my bunnies kept munching on my pansy's, I decided to rescue them and pot into containers and in the beds, sowed the onion sets in one and some starwberry plants in part of the other. I also planted my peas into the ground. It was either that or re-pot them as the were bursting out of the pot. I ummed and ahhed with the weather due to turn again, but good ol' hubby quickly knocked together a cold frame out of stuff we had lying around. I also made a temporary triangular frame over the young strawberies out of wire squares that we had left over from building the rabbits enclosuer in the shed.
I am being brave and will post some photo's just to show have naff my garden is in comparision to the lovely ones I have seen so far. Sorry so many!
This will be the part of the patio dedicated to most of what we are growing:
The rest of my garden:
Peas in!
Potatoes in!
Garlic!
Hubby's cold frame:
My cold frame (may not look pretty, but I hope it does the job considering my area is at high risk of heavy snow showers on Monday):0 -
Hex2 my MIL was trying to explain a method of growing apples to me and I didn't know what she was on about when she was calling them EXPELAIRS!
Madhoue.... I'm glad you put your piciies on as your garden looks like a tidier version of mine! Even down to the plastic greenhouse and the toystore. And BTW my Child B had that same anorak too.
We forgot to go and buy fleece for DH's nectarine tree , which is in blossom so hope that the snow holds off til after B&Q opens in the morning!
Good luck to everyone in the coming weather I really hope all your work isn't undone. Luckily for me I haven't planted much stuff outside mainly thru laziness, but I did put a couple of pots with new spuds in the plastic greenhouse t'other day as an experiment. It's pretty stormy out there already.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0
