We've got a sticker on our front door saying "ATTENTION: We do not buy or sell at this door".
The doorbell just rang and there was a bloke there asking if we'd like a quote for energy efficient windows & doors.
So I pointed at the sign and said "We do not buy or sell at this door.", to which he replied "I'm not selling, I'm offering you a free quote."; I just pointed at the sign and repeated "We do not buy or sell at this door.".
Maybe a I need a bigger sign, with more detail on it, something like:As you can see I have put up a sign on the door
saying we don't buy and sell at the door,
so what the heck makes you think that knocking
on my door against my wishes is going to make
me want to buy anything from you????
this was your error as i used to interact with them now as soon as they start talking i just slam the door on them.
nothing stops them knocking but you save yourself the hassle of dealing with them0 -
I am nasty to them and rightly so as they have every. intention of trying to rip me off. I detest cod callers and really tell them to do one....i once invited the jovos in the house and asked them to tell me why i am gay...they ran out of the house.
.Treat all cold callers with the contempt they deserve.
Time wasting fools
except a window man or milkman..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
next time, just ask if their product, be it solar panels, gas or electricity is halal or not!
I am curious as to why these cold-callers are treated with such contempt by the members.
Is it not more polite to simply say your're not interested, thank you?
I can get cold-callers to move on in less than a minute without being rude or slamming a door in their faces.
Perhaps the reactions say more about the members than the callers.
(excepting the post regarding an elderly person who has difficulty getting to the door)0 -

Cold callers in person at the door are treated with contempt because some people are displaying signs which the cold caller is choosing to ignore!
It's exactly the same situation as cold telephone calls - the cold caller is interrupting the life/family life/work/sleep of someone because they feel pedalling their tat is more important than someone feeding their baby or pulling someone away from their work on the pretext that the caller is necessary such as a family friend or postman with a delivery.
Some people really need their sleep. We have more people than ever working shifts. Would you be happy in the knowledge that the doctor operating on your loved one was interrupted by someone using the same old crudola methods of pedalling tat?The man without a signature.0 -

They're treated with contempt because they pester people who have clearly got a sign etc in the window saying that they do not wish to be disturbed by cold callers.
If they cannot respect a person's right to privacy, then why should that person show any respect towards them?0 -
I've been looking forward to getting religious callers/preachers so I can have a debate with them but strangely enough we haven't had any cold callers since we got an extremely noisy dog who shrieks in delight whenever there's a knock on the door.
He's only like, tiny but he makes SUCH a noise'til the end of the line0 -
I just had another one!
I opened the door, pointed at the sign and glared.0 -
I've been in sales all my working life, and had a couple of (fortunately, very short) spells of door knocking - once calling on householders, the other calling on small businesses.
The reason "No cold callers" signs are ignored, is that in these selling organisations, there is always some Sales Director/Trainer who will tell new recruits that people put these signs up because they know they are susceptible to sales techniques, so if you can engage them in conversation, you are more likely to sign them up.
My experience over many years is that any company who thinks that door-to-door selling is a viable business model in the 21st century, is completely out of touch, and their product or service is likely to be overpriced rubbish anyway.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years.
