After reading what you think of col;d callers, that God i gave up trying to sell double glazing.

If i wanted double glazing, I wouldn't employ a stranger standing on my doorstep. I'd use personal recommendations, Yellow Pages or similar and look for quality reviews

So we should praise and admire those who ignore our request for privacy because of their optimism?

    Weird logic!

No it's not a weird logic. I don't claim to know anything about psychology, but from my own personal experience I find that those who have signs on their doors are basically opening themselves up to surprises.

If during the course of a pitch there is the slightest bit of interest from the customer (which by the way does not necessarily have to come from the product - it can be from merely observing the salesman) then they have already been taken out of their comfort zone. Basically because they have already entered the situation with the notion that nothing is going to convince them, if something does take their interest then they are automatically taken out of that comfort zone - something they were not expecting.

Anyway this was in retaliation to the poster (Dave) who was obviously foolish enough to believe some sort of stereotype that salesmen and women are not in the least bit educated.

In my original response I offered a rational explanation as to how to deal with some of them respectfully, but this fool decided to talk to me in such a rude manner. If this' Dave' hasn't the foresight to learn from those who have actually "been there and done that" then I've got no time for such people.

i used to sometimes knock on doors with signs when i sold sky but i would view the house first if it was an old dear i wouldnt bother
its a challenge to be fair and yes i did get some rather rude or smart !!! comments but i did sell to quite a few

the ones that always made me laugh were the ones mowing the lawn or hoovering the car and they say ive got a sign mate .. id be like well i know i where glasses but i doubt you could read that from this distance sometimes it would break the ice
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you

    I agree with that completely.

Most of us are in careers which will see us though to retirement. Is that what you envisage you doing at 60+ years of age, wandering the streets getting abuse from every door you ignorantly pound on?

Your chosen prefession is not a very big step from begging. Yet you claim to be educated??:rotfl::rotfl:

Bodymass if you knocked on my door I tell you where to go. If you so ignorant and uneducated to be unable to read a sign I put up, you would get my back up straight away

I can tell you 100% cold callers would not get my custom no matter how good the deal sounds.

I once had a chugger try to convince me that signing up with her was cheaper than donating online to the same charity, even though she admitted getting paid! The logic she used was that the agency she worked for had already been paid by the charity!

That's like trying to convince a veggie that eating meat doesn't kill animals, because the animal is already dead :rotfl:

I could equally say same about you. The only ignorant one is you for ignoring and not respecting people's wishes to privacy. If you have a problem with that get a better job. :)

Why not try and put yourself in their shoes perhaps to get some understanding of where they come from? It's ignorant people like you who I don't much care for.

You appear to have limited intelligence being unable to understand that 'No Cold callers' means just that, which part of the word 'No' dont you understand?

Though it may not have occurred to you because of your limited intellect, there is a difference between not being able to decipher a sign, and instead interpreting it in a positive way. Your defeatism is typical of the type of person who views such challenges as beyond their capabilities.

Its a carp job because many sales man lie, ignore peoples wishes and you stop and nothing to get a sale. Believe or not many of us have a brain we exercise that every day. We make choices and can decide for ourselves to find deals without some cold caller trying to pull a fast one, by lying, and have a vested interest in the product/s they are selling

EDIT This is one such case in questions sales person lying about there motives

I have also never heard of the term "carp job it is", so maybe you should consider taking a leaf out of your book by getting an education perhaps?

I am not interested in your intellectual capacity or the warez you sell. I am not interested in you life or what you do. But if you came to my door you get a greeting all right and it wouldn't be the one you would like to hear.

Exactly that my friend; you can only dream of what it's like out there in the real world. It's incredible how one-dimensional some people think. I really do pity you. Besides not being able to fight yourself out of a wet paper bag, you wouldn't stand a chance against me intellectually either.

I wish the government would ban cold callers, putting a sign up at ones door should be sufficient reason for cold callers to not call accept we get people like Bodymass who think its a challenge to go ahead and still do it, and you call others ignorant, unbelievable you are.

We never use to get this problem years ago, but now your not safe any where abet at your own home either hounded by the door, phone, street by chuggers, supermarket its seems accepted practice and one reason I avoid busy shops especially at weekend when they are more abundant

I would tend to disagree. When I was younger we had far more cold callers- usually selling cleaning products.
