Hi all, ever since going over to virgin broadband last week I've not been able to log into some of my usual sites, ie www.proflowers.com or www.insiderdeals.co.uk to name but 2. I just get a message saying that internet explorer cannot log into those sites right now. I never had a problem with this when I was on aol dial up. Can some other users on here do 2 things for me please.

1. can some of you try and log into www.proflowers.com it's an american site I use to send flowers cheap and direct to my sister in St. Louis and see if the site loads for you using internet explorer.

2nd can anyone give me any ideas why I can't get into these sites or do you think this happens to everyone at the moment. It's happening on a lot of my sites, some of them are links from forums on here so it's very annoying. Thanks.

Both of those sites work fine for me.

Possible a problem with Virgins dns servers?

I take it you can access some websites and just not some others?

try typing the following into the address bar in IE or FF

209.247.78.15/ after the http:// then hit return

If that works then it is a DNS lookup problem.

DNS is the service that translates the IP addresses of Websites (i.e. 209.247.78.15) to a URL that humans have a chance of remembering e.g https://www.proflowers.com
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Ok thanks for explaining the DNS I think I get it. I tried what you said but I get the same message as I've pasted below HELP boo hoo sniff

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
<LI id=causeNotConnected>You are not connected to the Internet. <LI id=causeSiteProblem>The website is encountering problems.
• There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:

More information
