Only if it`s a well known company. :)

I use this site. no email or sign up it just compare policies like for like and gives a good idea of what extras to pay. Type in any car insurance and compare policies.

    Thanks for the link.

I checked this out last night but then had probs getting onto MSE so couldn't post this then. I did a quote with Bennetts and it came out very reasonably. But Bennetts are Aviva aren't they? And Aviva used to be Norwich Union who used to be rubbish with claims.

Any thoughts on Bennetts from anyone? Thanks.

Be wary of Bennetts, their admin fees are high and they use the auto renew trick so you need to be on the ball with them.

  • Carole Nash do have an alternative brand that "strips out" a lot of the extras that you get (nay, pay for) with their normal policies. No idea how competitive it is but try http://www.just-motorcycleinsurance.com/

Price is a big factor but how they handle any claim is more important. I wouldn't want to go with the absolute cheapest if they were useless in the event of a claim - as that would just cost you a lot more time, hassle and money in the long run.

However, just because a particular company is more expensive it doesn't mean their claims handling is guaranteed to be any better.

Price every time. I only have the stuff to be legal and haven't had to test anyone's claim handling in the past 27 years. If I'd paid extra for "good claim handling" all those years I'd be broke by now. As it is, I'm still broke but at least I got to spend it on important stuff like fags & booze :D

On the other hand, if you're in the habit of having to make claims then that side of it might be more important to you ;)

I don't know how it works with motorbike. But I sometimes drive friends car so always buy a comprehensive cover which provides cover to drive any other vehicle than mine. Recently many companies don't allow this and are sometimes cheapest.
So I do read the small print before paying up.
