Used to be cheapest method of renewal everytime

That includes online quotes, using quidco and giving the current insurer an opportunity to make me a good offer - whoever is the cheapest gets the contract.

However don't have time anymore to go searching and scheming so as long as current is still rock bottom (sub £200) I'm not going to lose sleep trying to save £50 jumping through quidco hoops etc.

If I have to do an policy ammendment and they try to put a fee on me £15 -£20), I will give them an opportunity to change their minds and tell them if they don't drop the fee they will lose my business forthwith and cancel my policy, they so far have ALWAYS backed down and dropped the fee....

I don't see why everyone doesn't do this?

Cheapest always as I don't plan to have an accident.

    Car gets stolen
    Someone hits in to you
    Someone vandalises your vehicle

Or are you one of those drivers that says 'Ah but I wont crash'?

But wouldn't a 50/50 settlement do the exact opposite? i.e. cost them???

They've already made their money taking your premiums. What they (like any insurer) would attempt to do is minimise any loss. If they believed they could get the other side to accept 100% liability they would.

Agreed... doesnt really make sense to me either as nothing about the way they have handled my claim has made sense or conformed to logic. This is my first claim in 19 years, pehaps I was being naive in thinking how simple it would be.

I use this site. no email or sign up it just compare policies like for like and gives a good idea of what extras to pay. Type in any car insurance and compare policies.

  • Only recently started to shop arround, i see what the quotes are then choose a reasonably priced company which comes recommended.

Cheapest is seldom the most economical in most spheres of life.

Having just renewed mine today I went for the 2nd cheapest because it also had legal cover and a lower excess.

Hopefully paying that extra £50 will be a waste of money as I won't need to claim.

That, to me, says walk away.

You want to buy bike insurance off them (a legal requirement without which you can't ride), insisting that you also buy other products on the back of that isn't acceptable in any way.

It's like Tesco telling you that you can only buy food (something you need) from them if you buy the wine to go with it, even if you're teetotal!

Carole Nash don't make you buy other products but they include things like free Europe wide breakdown and accident recovery and legal expenses cover with every policy they sell.

When I was looking for insurance in jan after a claim at new year in which my beloved focus was written off in a hit and run I found a company called octagon to be the cheapest by about £150. After a bit of searching though I couldn't find a decent review about them, every single review was terrible so decided to pay extra and go with co-op that were a company i had at least heard of x I have ended up putting my excess sky high to bring my insurance down a bit as I was given my current car ( a 12 yr old focus) by my parents and have no intention of claiming for it in the event of an accident.

cheapest is the only option for me.

I only do 3rd party anyway, my bike is next to worthless, well less than a grand,
what with excesses and the loading that happens after a claim, I will be better off
just not claiming and starting from scratch again.

If the cheapest company is an !!!! at paying out for 3rd party claims, its really
not my problem, im not covering my losses, im covering yours, and its for your
insurer to thrash it out with the bottom feeders that are my insurers.

The price is all that matters with 3rd party insurance.
