Cheapest always as I don't plan to have an accident.

I take the cheapest one for my needs. With the right addons, excess etc. call current company, if they can't match it I walk, if they can I stay. It's not good comparing apples with pears if the excesses and addons are different. What you really need to do is get a comparison with everything included

Be warned when buying through comparison websites. Most only ask for convictions up to 5 years old. That's fine unless you have had a conviction which carried a disqualification period. Insurers will need to know about them if they were under 10 years ago. It is up to you to make sure they know about it. Some sites do not have the facility to do this.

Maybe, but have you had to deal with them after an accident?:)
My eldest daughter had an horrendous time with them after a no fault accident for which the other insurer paid up for her car repair. Just one example of their incompetence, her n.c.d. was altered to indicate a claim when there wasn't from them.
The cheapest isn't always the best option.

Yes good point but I've had the Co-op do that to me with car insurance so it isn't just the cheapest who make mistakes. I guess any company is only as good as the people they pay to input data. The Co-op also managed to list the same no fault incident TWICE on my policy.

I used Hastings for my bike before, no issues but again, I didn't need to claim and that's where you know if you backed the right horse.

One thing I would say is that Hastings regualrly do cashback through sites like topcashback so do not buy through the comparison site.

clear your cookies and do it through topcashback. I got another £50 back and that really made the decision easy.

    5t.

I used Hastings for my bike insurance for years, never had a problem until I needed to use their services. They are the most hopeless, disorganised, and shambolic company I have had the misfortune of dealing with. Paperwork was lost, calls never returned as promised, had many a “you wouldn’t have been told that“ conversation with their inept staff and yet 15 months on I’m still waiting for the claim to be settled. They seemed only interested in me perusing a claim for personal injury, and after convincing them for the 10th time that I wouldn’t be doing this, as I only had a few cuts and bruises, everything went on very much a go slow. They suggested I agree to accept a 50/50 liability “for a speedy resolution”. Being in no way to blame I refuse to accept this and nothing has progressed since. This was in December last year. Looking online I’m not the only one, there are many others with similar experiences of Hastings Direct. If only I’d have checked this before buying instead of just going for the cheapest option!

I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone and will think twice before taking the cheapest option in future. I’d have a look around and go for something which offers great value, i.e. is reasonably priced and also has favourable reviews online.

    Bestof luck!

Why did they want you to pursue a claim for personal injury when they are recommending you accept a 50/50 liability settlement?

My accident was in Feb 2011. Most of last year they were desperate for me to persue a personal injury claim through a company called Carpenters in Liverpool. They were very pushy and not happy that the only "expenses" I wanted to claim for was a new helmet. Even some months after this appointment letters with private Dr's arrived. Once the message was finally understood that I wasnt claiming for personal injury Hastings suggested that we accept 50/50 for a speedy resolution. I've rejected this and written to them outlining the reasons (too long to go into), this was 5 months ago and I'm still waiting for them to sort it out. They seem to have no desire to provide a fair resolution for their customers, merely persuing areas of a claim which can potentially make them money.

But wouldn't a 50/50 settlement do the exact opposite? i.e. cost them???

They've already made their money taking your premiums. What they (like any insurer) would attempt to do is minimise any loss. If they believed they could get the other side to accept 100% liability they would.
