Can anyone recommend a gun range in Tampa area ?

I'm wondering how many people are killed or injured by licensed firearms in the UK every year.
Just to put things into perspective.
Edit: Not including suicides as the poor sod would doubtless just find some other way of doing the deed if a firearm was not available. A chainsaw, for example.0 -

Okeechobee shooting sports
Apparently, lots of families and children go there. Also, if you are after something unusual, rent an AR/AK with the slide fire stock. I have no idea what a slide fire stock is.

In all honesty, I think that where Okeechobee is located is going to make it a no-go for me, but thank you very much for the link.0 -

What do we all think?
I think that you're posting on the wrong thread.
I asked if anyopne could recommend a gun range in the Tampa area and you're attempting to take the thread into a entirely different direction.
How about starting another thread elsewhere (perhaps DT), which will probably give you wider discussion.0 -
Hi Murphy - no useful info to add I'm afraid, but just wanted to say hope that you have a lovely holiday! We just got back from holiday in Florida (Orlando mostly) and I did suggest a shooting range as a family activity for all of us to do something a bit unusual but the rest of the clan weren't so keen and in the end, we were too shattered from the parks to do much else when we got back.
Hope you find somewhere - have you tried thedibb website? There were some recommendations for ranges near Orlando and a lot of folk are knowledgeable about the Tampa area as well."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -

I may have aquick mooch at thedibb, as I know that it is a massive resource for info in that area -- I've stayed away so far, as I didn't want to get to start looking at another websites infoboard. In the past I've spent way, way, way to much time online and I don't want to start down that slippey slope again.;)0 -
The dibb boards are a mine of information not just on the parks and all things Disney.
Out of interest have you asked your kids if they would like to experience Disney or is it that you have previously all done it? I'm all for going off the beaten track but yet to meet a child who wouldn't be amazed at the (agreed its artificaial) wonder of WDW at that age
Can't recommend any ranges I am afraid as have only visited one many years ago and didn't like the whole feeling of it all. IMO its nothing like the golf range in the UK and a totally innappropriate place for most 8 year olds (espciaally with the sort of weapons you are talking about) JMHO0 -

We've not asked the children if they'd like to go to Disney specifically, but we did give them the choice of Disney, Busch Gardens, a water park or Legoland for a day. & they chose Legoland.
I'd truly hope that a golf range is very different to a gun range, otherwise things could get very sticky

I was attempting to stop you in your tracks and make you think and also to stop anyone else who clicked on the thread from thinking for too long that there is anything normal about your original request for info. I wasn't looking for a discussion. I don't mean to offend and I respect your right to think differently, but you did your thinking and posted on a public forum and so I hit Reply and published my views with what I consider to be good intent. Hope you don't mind too much
.
No offense taken whatsoever. You've got your opinions and I've got mine and as long as we differ in an appropriate manner, the world goes round as before
However, if you're looking for a discussion on the rights and wrongs of accessing gun ranges with a broader audience, DT would be a better place.
What is one persons normal is another persons odd..
p.s.I'm loving the idea of a complete stranger on t'internet trying to stop me doing something thats perfectly legal.0 -
Hey Murph, I've had a few more recommendations and an offer to take you out shooting with an AK47 (plus others) if you are interested in making a day of it. PM me if you are.

The Gun Shop and Gun Range is in Leesburg and has been recommended as Brit friendly. Also, the advice is to avoid indoor ranges if you want to shoot rifles unless they are very long. Common sense, I suppose.
Edit: I forgot this one... http://www.dcrgc.us/index.html0 -
Thanks for everyone who contributed positively to the thread (& even those who weren't so positive !).
After giving it some thought, we're going to definitely pass on the idea of an Outdoor Range (keeping our 5 year old 100% controlled at all times was the overriding issue here), and we're going to give an Indoor Range a closer look when we get there.
We need to be absolutely, categoricallly, without a shadow of doubt, certain, that MYK completely understands the safety issues of firearms before we'll let him handle a firearm - never mind a loaded one.
Something to work out when we get there.
Murph
p.s I ran the idea by MTK the other day and he's very keen to try. His preference now would be for a revolver.
He did remind me that he tried an M16 with laser sights last year at the National Museum of the Marine Corp in Virginia.0
