Can anyone recommend a gun range in Tampa area ?

Later on this year I've got a family touring holiday in Florida. As part of that trip, we're spending some time in the Tampa area. From a quick google, there seems to be quite a few gun ranges that are open to us -- does anyone on MSE have experience of any of them ? and if so, does any one have any recommendations for a particualr one ?

I though they just used the local school or college for shooting practice in the US.

    Hello Bob

Not really the useful answer that I was looking for ;)

In the ideal world, I was looking for somewhere where I could try an M16.
My 8 year old son fancies a Walther PPK (a la 007) or a Glock17, but we'll have to see what individual gun range policies are :D.

p.s. Texas was an easy place to go shooting in. The bloke in the lane next to me was using a Mossberg Persuader -- there wasn't much of the target left after trigger pull #1 !

Dunno why but in the back of my brain I think you have to be at least 10 to shoot in florida.

Re your choice of gun a tad interesting M16 pretty old school, most ranges are gonna carry the ar15 or the more modern M4 carbine, PPK are ok however my gun of choice is always a Makarov, which is pretty much a PP but a nicer action, and glocks are to plasticky for my liking but each to their own

You could well be right about the age of 10 in Florida.
I've not been shooting for many years in Florida, but from my age challenged memory, the choice of 'guns for hire' wasn't particularly large - although I do have a dark and distant image of M16's along the 'for hire' wall. My last experience of being in a gunrange was in Fort Worth, Texas, where the choice of guns was enormous. I can recall children using the range whilst we were there (my two watched from the viewing gallery), but I can't recall their ages.
We used a Glock that day, for its 'reliability, effectiveness and ease of use' aka the one that the Brits will be able to use without confusing themselves to much :D

Much more memorable to filling Uncle Walts bulging coffers ;)

Oddly on the reliability front on the glock the couple of 17's we have at work tend to be the most regular firearms that go wrong, and require stripping and "fiddling" with, saying that its probably due to lack of use however give me something old and russian anyday and im a happy bunny
