UPDATE: After sending off the form I've received a letter asking me to send a certified proof of ID (passport or driving licence), so it looks like this CAN be opened by post:D and still time to get the first month's money in.
The exact ID requirements are here: http://www.thenottingham.com/uploadedFiles/PDFs/identification-for-savings-customers.pdfWe need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

OK thanks for the info. I sent the form off this morning with a brief covering note and scanned copy of my passport as proof of ID. Don't expect they'll accept it but worth a try.
Success! I received my savings passbook in the post today so it seems to have worked! Phoned up to ask for account number and sort code, and and have now set up a standing order for monthly payments.
Thanks to thenudeone for sharing the application form.0 -
Having opened mine in branch at the end of April and made the initial payment there and then, I set up a standing order in mid-May for the next 11 payments, the first of which went through successfully.I came, I saw, I saved.

I have definitely opened Building Society "Branch only" accounts this way before (I can't remember if it was with The Nottingham).
Could you confirm that this form is the same

who do make the cheque payable to?0
-
Yes, that looks like the form I filled in.
As for the cheque, I think when I was in branch I made mine out to Nottingham Building Society and they put a corresponding reference on the back. The subsequent standing orders go to the NBS' Natwest Bank Account and they assign the funds to the appropriate savings account from there.I came, I saw, I saved.

Many thanks, ill get that off tomorrow.
I wish more "national" banks did something like this to get folk starting. Regular saver accounts are good rates (-tax), but low amounts, ISAs higher amounts moderate rates. This is perfect for someone like me without a lump, but wants to start.
I hope this works.0 -
The book came in the post yesterday and it appears that the cheque payable to "Nottingham building society" was credited to the ISA.
No intro letter or anything like that so I have no idea about t&cs or anything, seems odd. Not too fussed as I have read them online.
Now how do I know what my sort and A/C numbers are so that I can pay in to the thing without doing a 1000 mile round trip or send a cheque and book through the post each month.0 -
Hi all.
Had a look around and how I can make a payment to my ISA online.
Am I right in thinking to make the payment I need to use
sort 60-80-09
AC 96875364
now this is where I get confused. The information (http://www.albany.co.uk/media/12609/crediting_and_debiting_building_society_accounts.pdf) I can see is that I should enter a 10 digit account number. My book says my account number is 12 digits with the first two "00"
those with a book who have paid online, do you have a 12 digit? if so do you just knock off the first two zeros?
I don't think I will be getting my £470 in this month either0 -
I was able to set up a standing order online, as my main current account is with First Direct.
I entered Nottingham BS as the destination name, then their NatWest sort code and account number as the account details and my personal account number and name as the reference.
I entered the recurring date of the standing order as 6 days after I set it up. I called them a couple of days after the first standing order payment was made and they confirmed it was visible on their system.
I hope this helps.I came, I saw, I saved.
