Was it taken by Direct Debit (I assume so).

You made a mistake by paying so close, it was too close for it to clear before the DD was due.

Your quickest way is to speak to Wonga and take the name of the person you speak with. Inform them that you will contact your bank and request a return under the Driect Debit Guarantee.

They can do this, even with financial insitutions but you will need agreement with Wonga for this to happen. The money will be returned by your bank immediately.

If you leave it to Wonga, it could take a couple of weeks, the same as it would any other financial institution.

I had a similar issue with American Express a while ago.

For clarity. Wonga did not take payment twice, you gave them the first one.
  • thanx that is more helpful than the bank and wonga were so if i get wonga to agree to it the bank will give the money bank

As long as their payment went out as a direct debit. If it goes by some other name maybe not.

As a comparison amex would have taken at least ten days to return my money but the bank did it the same day. They did want the name of the amex rep I agreed it with though.

I was quibbling over 3.2k which had gone out twice, hopefully a lot more than you are trying to retrieve. I would hope smaller sums would be just as simple..
  • Wonga take payment from your debit card, they dont do direct debits. If you pay off your loan early you have to do it via your account and it would then show it was clear. I find it very hard to believe they would take another payment after the fact (I have used them for a couple of days loan when in a pinch and have always paid the loan off early and never had extra money taken.)

    Hi
    so just to clarify
You paid wonga with your debit card and that has gone through
They have applied for the same amount and that has been authorised but not collected?
That is not quite the same as them taking it twice, they now have an authorisation code and they can take it within the next 7 days, if not the authorisation will be cancelled.
For some reason I used to find this happened when i shopped at the co op. They would take two authorisations but only collect once, thus tying up some of my money for a week

also technically the account is not overdrawn just a hold placed on your account, still diffciult if you need access to funds, maybe bank can allow a tempory overdraft.

yeah, here it goes. being desperate... i took a 100 quid loan from wonga. i had little money when i was due so i extended it a day before, paid them 35 quid... and they said ill have to pay them 143 next month...10 pounds plus for the extension....
!!!!!, but it was all right.

the problem is that they took the money twice... they took it again 4 days later... went to the bank ..barclays .. they told me its nothing that they can do... and i got well beyond my overdraft limit ...ill pay a fine to the bank as well.

i ordered a replacement debit card for i was afraid of more mess-ups

my question is can i do anything about it , like sue them or make them give me something for all the pain caused ???

    well, can i ?
