Tesco 'contaminated' fuel
Comments
-
Just registered my details with Tesco and got a reference number back - thanks for posting the customer hotline number above.
Also registered with Trading Standards this morning - they too will give you a reference number. They have advised getting the garage to test the petrol and send in (using recorded delivery) your claim direct to Tesco's if it is indeed contaminated fuel.
Tesco's will be hard hit here and vote with your feet - hit the accelerator when you see a Tesco's fuel station and go to Shell or any other oil branded fuel station for that matter0 -
ASDA and Sainsburys have now also said they are recieving reports of a problem so its not just Tesco!0

There is a thread on this on the motoring board too
I've just had a reply from trading standards who advise me to take a sample of fuel... shame that i have filled up twice since I filled up with contaminated fuel really! Testing it would be pointless!
Now I have to dig through my statements to find which ones are from tesco just before my car died last monday... but it's bloody difficult to work out from the details on my statement. Shame I didn't know I'd need a reciept to prove I'd bought petrol really...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
I also contacted Trading Standard today and got the same advice. I didn't use my car today, but have just taken it on a "test" run and it seems okay. Logic suggests that as I had to travel 25 miles to get home last night, my engine will have suffered the damage anyway.
I'll try it to work tomorrow...

I wonder how far the hysteria will spread?0
-
er..as far as a public forum designed for consumers..?0
-
i need to fill up soon, obviously keen to avoid any problems
so if i avoid tescos/sains/morisons should i be okay?0 -
What gets me is that the stores involved on the same day said that they had carried out tests and found no problems. (Trading Standards took samples on teh same day, but doing it properly need to wait a day or so to get results). Then this morning they said that their fuel is ok now as any fuel in the storage tanks would be flushed out.
Errr - I thought there was nothing wrong with the fuel???Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0 -
And...
now they have closed the affected stations and are draining out the unleaded petrol0 -
People - it's not anything to do with the ethanol content in this fuel - it has been contaminated with silicon (or so recent reports state)0
