What is good news is that even with the problems with OH not working your debt has still gone down. Now that he can make a contribution it should move a lot faster.

    Well done!

    Well done!

    Thanks! I really appreciate it!

  • Right then! Today’s to-do list:

    · Do Avon order online
    · Do surveys
    · Do daily clicks on Quidco and Pigsback
    · Do some cooking of things to freeze
    · Put clean washing away
    · Clean kitchen
    · Sweep floor, now that I have a new dustpan and brush (79p from Wilkos – bargain!)
    · Mop kitchen floor

I think that is plenty to be going on with!

  • Hi All

I have just done some sums, using my spreadsheet , and I have been able to colour in another 4 of my £50 squares (thanks for the idea Hypno!) and I worked out that I have reduced my total non-mortgage debt by about 15% since my lightbulb moment. That’s not to be sniffed at!

I wish it was more but over the last 2 years I have put a lot of hard work into saving as much money as possible on interest rates and other things, so things can only get better! (Please Mr Halifax – be nice to me!)

    Hi All

I am taking a break from doing battle with an exam paper (new formatting rules – grrrrr!!!! ) to do a bit of brain storming on ways of making extra money. The list is as long as your arm so I am not going to bore everyone with it. I have a little notebook (loooovvve notebooks!) in which I have been writing down all this random stuff (e.g inventories of kitchen cupboards, various lists etc etc) and I have managed to fill about 2 pages of it with ideas.

It has reminded me of something I have forgotten to mention. Over the past few weeks I have been working on recanvassing my Avon territory – just a few houses at a time, nothing too onerous. Some houses I haven’t done for a very long time, so I am trying them. Other houses have only fairly recently told me that they are not interested so I am not bothering with them. Of the 12 houses I have done so far, I have gained 2 new customers (i.e. they have actually placed orders) and 3 have told me that they are not interested, which is also good – I would rather people told me so I am not wasting my time on them.

In addition I have decided to prune my list a little – normally unless someone specifically tells me that they are not interested, I keep persevering. Although I have what I call my ‘do last list’ for those that have never ordered, who haven’t ordered for a very long time and/or where I have real trouble getting the book back. Anyway I decided to review the situation and check how long it has been either since an order was placed or how long they have been receiving a book without ever ordering. I have discovered that some people have been receiving a book either every 3 weeks or every 6 weeks (with the ‘do last list’ I often alternate – I don’t give them a book every campaign) for the last 3 years without ever placing an order! I think I can safely cross them off my list! In addition I have found one customer who only ever ordered once in the last 3 years and that was in 2005, so I have crossed her off as well. The aim is to make the best use of my time and not waste it on those that are never likely to order – I would rather try to find new customers!

Anyway, I suppose I had better get back to this exam paper – groan!

  • Morning All!

Well, the main news today is that the Halifax bill arrived in the post yesterday. I got an A4 pad out and wrote down on it exactly what would need to be paid and when. I gave this to OH when he got home from work and told him to use the pad to work exactly how much he will have been paid before the payment is due, in order to work out how much he will have left over afterwards. I told him to also work out what he is going to need for other things between now and then (travel expenses, food shopping etc) and that whatever was left over he should give to me. I have told him that the priority is the next Halifax payment and that he should pay me back for the one I have made as and when he can – in instalments if necessary. I have also told him that from now on, all payments to this card should be made in cash – I do not want to run the risk of bouncing cheques again!

I have also told OH that he really needs to draw up a monthly budget for himself, so that he can work out how much money he has got coming in, how much he needs for paying bills, how much for travel expenses etc – so that he can work out much will have left over to throw at debts!

Things are looking good for the old ‘Make £10 a day’ challenge. I did my Avon order last night so that’s £70.02 commission to add to my total. Plus my latest Quidco payment has hit my bank account today, so that ‘s another £27.82. So I am now up to £97.84 and it is only the 4th of the month! Woohoo! Tomorrow my latest Amazon payment is due to go into my account, I have a £5 Boots gift voucher on the way from Lightspeed and I will be placing another Avon order before the end of the month so that will be some more commission to add. I posted 4 Amazon parcels on Monday and I am going to post another one today, so that’ll be more to add when the payment goes into my account in 2 weeks time.

I think that’s all the news for now. I’ll update on yesterday’s to-do list and do a new one for today in separate posts.

    Bye for now!

    Hi All

Some good news re the Halifax credit card (though no news on the APR issue yet). I have just checked online and they have refunded the late payment fee and the overlimit fee (but not the unpaid cheque fee). So that’s a reduction of £24 straight away! :j

I don’t want to count my chickens, but could this be a good sign?!

Keeping my fingers very firmly crossed!
