I got some pillow protectors from dunelm mill, like old fashioned ticking. They are really thick and seem to help keep my feather pillows clean.
At the price of those paper duvets, they are disposable, it's cheaper to buy new in the supermarket than have them washed.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
My husband drools and sweats profusely from his head when asleep, due to this i changed his pillow every month, but I have just got some waterproof latex type pillow protectors from ebay (3.99 each)that they use in hospitals called dritech. I looked into getting a latex pillow but some places were charging over £40 just for a pillow!!!!
So this month, hubby got two new pillows, which were put into the ikea pillow protector, then into this dritech one, then into the pillowcase.
They are a bit crinkly sounding but what with hubbys snoring, im,sure he doesnt hear it rustling under his head. I'm sure they will last longer as they wont get saturated with drool and sweat. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

All this talk of washing pillows and duvets made me think of the pillows, duvets and mattresses in hotels and self-catering houses, at least at home it's only your own dust mites etc.0

Does anyone know if its possible to wash feather pillows? I am changing dd's bedding and feel they could do with a freshen up.0

I wash them, one at a time, in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with a bit of washing liquid and some soda crystals. I then leave them to dry flat on the top of an airer and rotate them and fluff up as they dry. HTH.0

Put them inside a pillow case (or even two) - to stop any escaping feathers.0

Yes I wash mine. One at a time as said with washing powder, but I tumble mine with tennis balls.0

Hi Prudent,
We have an older thread on washing feather pillows that might help so I've added your thread into it to keep all the suggestions together.
